Chapter 21: IT'S TIME TO GO

IT'S TIME TO GO

"He called me a mudblood?" Lily asked weakly, after Harry finished the story. Harry only nodded and looked down.

"Don't you see Harry," Sirius said, "we only did these things to people who deserved it."

"Did Snape deserve it?" Harry growled at him.

"Well apparently he did!"

"Only because you provoked him!"

"Are you defending him?" James exclaimed, "you just found out he called your mother the m word and you are attacking me?"

"Do not twist my words around," Harry said angrily.

"Well then in return try not to twist my actions around," James replied steadily.

"Well of course we are going to look evil if you look at it from Snape's perspective!" Sirius made up his mind to also start raising his voice, "but in reality, the pranks were harmless!"

"Hanging people down by the ankle is what you call harmless?" Harry asked angrily.

"We only did that to people who deserved it!" Sirius said defended the Marauders.

"And I bet Snape didn't show you how he and his death eater friends bullied innocent students," James added.

"Severus didn't do that," Lily whispered.

"Not when you were around," James told her.

"They really did hex other students," Sirius agreed, "they wouldn't just hang them in the air and pull down their pants, they would actually hurt them!"

"And you did the same thing!" Harry insisted and then looked at Lily.

"And you hated him!" he told her, "how are you together right now, if you hated each other!"

"People change Harry," Lily said simply, not wanting to argue and Harry stopped talking.

"Harry," Hermione said carefully, "try to see both sides of the story."

"There is no side to their story," Harry said frustrated, "they simply did it out of boredom."

"Well of course he showed that," Sirius growled, "there would be no point in showing you us hexing him while he was hexing somebody else."

"You just admitted you were a bully," Harry continued.

"For the last time, " James said angrily, "the people we bullied were death eaters! They were horrible people, who did horrible things and I am very sorry to say that we didn't just sit on our arses and watch them torment muggle-borns, who didn't do anything wrong."

"It's like us being mad at you for killing the basilisk in your second year!" Sirius added, and received a 'be careful look' from Ron and Hermione.

"That is not even remotely the same," Harry snapped.

"Why not? The end result for their victims was the same: the hospital wing," Sirius defended his statement and Harry stormed out of the room.

"You are an idiot," Ron whispered to Sirius.

He asked for it," Sirius muttered, "he wouldn't listen to us at all."

As time passed, and after a talk with O. Sirius and Remus, Harry was able to accept the fact, that his father and godfather were not as perfect as he perhaps wished for them to be.

"I am sorry for having a go at you," Harry told the time travellers as they walked down the corridor, "I was in shock, I didn't expect..."

"It's fine Harry," Sirius said understandingly.

"All is forgiven," Lily smiled, "we are just happy th-"

"So!" Lily was interrupted by Umbridge's voice echoing down the corridor, "So - you think it amusing to turn a school corridor into a swamp, do you?"

"What is going-?" Ron asked loudly but was interrupted as he saw Filch running past them as fast as he possibly could.

"I've got the form, Headmistress, " they heard him say, "I've got the form and I've got the whips waiting... oh, let me do it now... "

"I have to see this," Sirius said and started following Umbridge's voice ("You two, about to learn what happens to wrongdoers in my school.") they reached another corridor to see the so-called Headmistress was addressing the swamps creators: Fred and George Weasley.

"You know what? I don't think we are," Fred said, "George, I think we've outgrown full-time education."

"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," George said lightly.

"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" Fred asked his twin casually.

"Definitely," said George and before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together:

"Accio brooms!"

There was a loud crash in the distance. They turned around to see Fred and George's broomsticks travelling along the corridor towards their owners.

"We won't be seeing you," Fred told Professor Umbridge, swinging his leg over his broomstick.

"Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch," said George, mounting his own.

Fred looked around at the assembled students, at the silent, watchful crowd.

"If anyone fancies buying a Portable Swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three, Diagon Alley - Weasley' Wizarding Wheezes," he said in a loud voice.

"Our new premises!"

"Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat, " added George, pointing at Professor Umbridge.

"Can we go there now?" Sirius asked, but nobody answered, as everybody was too busy watching the twins.

"STOP THEM!" shrieked Umbridge, but it was too late. Fred and George kicked off from the floor, shooting fifteen feet into the air. Fred looked across the hall at the poltergeist bobbing on his level above the crowd.    

'Give her hell from us, Peeves.'    

And Peeves, to everybody's surprise, as nobody has never seen take an order from a student before, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and George wheeled about to tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.

"They have officially become my role models," James remarked.

"Hear hear," Sirius said, "I hope we stay long enough to go and visit their shop!"

They turned around to continue their way to the common room, but stood still as they saw Dumbledore standing in front of them.

"It's time to go"
