Cory
By this time, I could say that school was over. So I walked. The house wasn't so far away. As I walked, I thought about what I saw last night. The ghost boy, Moan. Was it a dream or what? I remembered what happened like it was yesterday, and it was like he wasn't even dead at all! I wondered why I could feel him when I bumped into him. I thought ghosts were transparent.
I got to the house and walked to the door and knocked just in case Parker was there. No answer, so I got out my house key and unlocked the door. When I got in, Parker was on the couch, napping until he woke up.
"Sis! You're back!" He comes to hug me. He smelled fresh.
"Yeah..."
"I made dinner!" Even though Parker is sometimes out of whack, he mostly means no harm. He's not a bad person. He then leads me over to the kitchen table and takes my backpack and stuff off my hands before setting a plate of delicious food in front of me.
"Parker...Why all of a sudden?" He laughs.
"Can't I just do something for my lovely sister?" He says. I just shrugg and dig in.
After dinner, I go upstairs, take a shower, and put on my pajamas before doing my homework. Then Parker opens my door.
"May I help you?" He peeks through the door.
"Just checking on you." I roll my eyes. He does this some nights before he goes out.
"Go on head...I'll be here..."
"What? I'm not going tonight." That was a first.
"Really?" I say, surprised. He nods. "Okay." We exchange smiles before he exits my room, closing the door back. When he leaves, I smile to myself, having hope that this might get better.
As I sit in my room doing my homework, I keep hearing noises, and my window opened and closed. I knew Moan was around somewhere. I tried to ignore, but it was hard.
"Moan...I'm not one for jumpscares." I say. He then come out of my closet, smiling.
"Worth a try."
"What are you doing here again?"
"I needed to come see you. It's been hard for me..."
"Hard for a ghost?! I thought all problems went away once you died."
"Well then you need to try dying around here. Trust me, it's not all paradise." Tonight, he seemed less playful and more snappy. I wonder why.
"What happened?" I ask.
"It's best if you didnt know..." He looks down. I then sit down on my bed and he sits with me.
"But you're cool to me. I wanna be your friend...I wanna help you if your in doubt."
"Cory. I can't be cool to anyone anymore. I'm dead!"
"So?" I look him in the eyes. "How did you die?"
"Drive-by shooting. Died a week later in the hospital." I felt sorry for him.
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"Did your parents grieve?"
"Only in the moment. Overtime, I've been forgotten by everyone...Except my sister, Amily."
"She misses you. Doesn't t she?"
"Yeah. We've pretty much had each other when our parents were away a lot."
"My brother and I were like that too when our parents died."
"I'm sorry, Cory."
"No need to be sorry. Its just hard at times because it sometimes feels alittle too empty here. And it was too close of a connection." I didnt realize I was crying when I felt his arm wrap around me. It seemed like we were each other's guardian angels.
I then sat up from his grasp and wiped my tears from my eyes.
"Are you okay now?" He asks. I nod.
"Are you okay? I know it had to be hard to talk about your death..."
"Yeah, but talking to you about it made it seem easy. I now know that we have friends in each other." I nod, smiling to myself.
Moan starts to leave. I then run to hug him really tight. I feel him hug me too.
I may not have been as alone as I thought I was.
