Love

Oikawa x Reader

It hit him like a volleyball to the face. Oikawa Tooru was in love with a human being for the first time.

_______ _______ was very a earnest and hardworking girl. You were very smart. You liked to read and write. You loved science. Your passionate and innocent nature attracted the nicest of friends. You seemed serious, but you had a good sense of humor and gave off an overall warm feeling. You were quiet at first, but once someone approached you, you would always smile.

You even smiled at Oikawa Tooru. You were so genuinely kind to the boy with terribly good looks and a terrible personality. It bothered him. Girls like you always give guys the wrong idea.

You already had a boyfriend. The two of you were in the same class. Like you, he was very honest and worked very hard. He was well respected among his peers. He was strong in every sense of the meaning. He loved you, and he loved volleyball. He was Iwaizumi Hajime.

Oikawa tried to figure out when his feelings for you started. Surely he had a crush on you when you smiled at him, but when did it become more than just a crush?

It must have been that one time.

"Hey, Oikawa." you said.

"What is it, _______-chan?" he asked.

"Do you believe in aliens?" you asked him.

"Why? Did Iwa-chan say anything? Oikawa questioned as he pathetically tried to cover up his secret obsession.

"Hajime doesn't believe in aliens." you frowned.

"I know." Oikawa said.

"Do you?" you asked.

"Of course I do!" he stated.

"I love Hajime, but he can be a real idiot sometimes. I mean the odds of us being the only living things in the entire universe are ridiculously low!" you exclaimed.

"Right?" he agreed.

"I just know there's something more." you said.

He fell in love with the look in your eyes when you said that.

Since Oikawa had finally collected all of his thoughts, he let his instincts take over.

"Iwaizumi! I'm heading out." Oikawa said during the middle of volleyball practice.

Iwaizumi was about to call him out for being too dramatic, but decided not to. Once he saw the determined look in his best friends eyes, he decided to let him go. He was pretty sure that he knew what was happening. His best friend was in love with his girlfriend. And it was only a matter of time before his idiot best friend realized it.

Oikawa confidently marched right over to the tennis courts.

"_______!" he shouted with all of his might.

"Yes?" you asked him.

Oikawa noticed that he had startled the entire team and that everyone was staring at him, but he shook it off.

"I have something really important that I have to tell you." he said.

You jogged over to him. Before saying anything to him, you smiled.

"What's up, Oikawa? Is everything okay?" you asked him.

"_______ _______, I've been in love with you ever since we talked about aliens." he confessed.

"That's really sweet." you told him.

He was shocked that you were being so kind to him.

"But why now?" you asked him.

"I just realized." he said.

"Oh." you quietly answered.

"And it makes me sad, and angry, and frustrated, so I decided to tell you." he stated.

"It makes me sad, too, Oikawa." you stated.

You lightly hugged the setter. He wanted to hug you back, but instead, he gently brushed off your arms.

"Can you call me Tooru?" he asked you.

"Whenever I say Hajime, does it make you sad?" you asked him.

"Very." he said with a straight face.

"Then I hope we can still be friends, Tooru." you said before politely bowing to him.

"Of course we can. Idiot." he said.

"Mean!" you laughed.

"Girls like you always give guys the wrong idea." he complained.

"Should I act more like Hajime?" you asked.

"Anything but that!" he pleaded.

The two of you laughed. Oikawa finally felt content about the whole situation. He would hold onto the moments like these that the two of you shared. The moments when he felt more important than Iwaizumi.

Oikawa accepted the fact that over time, things would change. He'd probably have to compete against his own best friend. Oikawa knew that Iwaizumi Hajime was more stubborn than he was, but Oikawa Tooru was persistent.

But for now, he was content.
