Feyre

A cold sweat dripped down my back as I heard Maeve's silken voice, 'What do you have for me? Where are my keys?' I turned slowly to face her, I had mere heartbeats to answer, I could either doom myself and my family or I could doom Aelin, it was an ultimatum, I realized, and Maeve new exactly what she was doing.

'I need more time,' I spoke as steadily as I could, 'Her mind is...stronger than I thought' I stumble over my words, I can't sentence this woman to a fate that is probably worse than death. Perhaps if I can buy a few more hour with her I can get some answers.

'We'll see about that,' Maeve said as she stepped aside and Cairn strode in, a smirk on his cruel face. He brushed past me and gripped Aelin's face. 'Perhaps we can loosen that tongue of yours,' he purred and punched her with tremendous force in the gut. A groan escaped Aelins lips as blood dripped on the floor.

He punched her again and again and again.

'Enough, Cairn,' Maeve's soft command had him halting, but I could still see the haze of blood lust in his eyes. 'Aelin, do you have an answer for me?' now it was Maeve who brushed past me to stand before Aelin.

Her voice was bearly a whisper but in the silence of the cell I could hear her clear enough, 'fuck you,' she said as she spat blood and saliva onto Maeve's pristine gown.

'Stupid girl!' Maeve's usually unsettling calm face was awash in rage as she raised a pale hand a cracked it across Aelins face. Her face snapped to the side and Aelin spat more blood onto the ground as she turned an almost dead stare to Maeve.

I watched as Maeve turned on her heel and strode from the room, Cairn right behind her. 'You have one hour, Feyre.' She called from the passageway outside the cell.

I looked to Aelin, her features dull and exhausting clung to her every limb.

'Tell me,' I said as I leaned against a wall, it was cold and damp. 'what?' Aelin raised her head, a red mark stark on her face. 'Tell me about these keys.' I said.

After a moment she began to speak, quietly, but surely.
