Niall's POV

If Cailin is telling the truth, that is really fucked up. She doesn't give me the feeling she's making it up. If it is true, that would explain her being so bi-polar the first week of school. Then, who is the real Caitlin? Ah...hell! I'll just ask.

"So, if that girl at school isn't you, who are you? REALLY!" Since she being so forthcoming with everything right now, I might as well get some answers.

"This." She waves her hand in front of herself. "This is me...the jeans, the hoodie, the shoes...I'd live in this stuff if I could!"

"That's great appearance wise but I'm talking in there." And I point toward the general area of her heart.

"I'm not a stuck up bitch that is only out for popularity and making other people feel like shit, if that's what you're getting at." She appears frustrated.

I look at my phone and realize I've got seven minutes to get back to work.

"Well, I should head back to work. Thanks for the apology and explanation. I guess I'll see you at school...I just won't talk to ya. That's how it works, right?" The words just roll off my tongue. I can't help it. She really flipped from being a pleasant girl to an absolute bitch within a week. How am I supposed to respond? Who knows which personality I'll be getting next?!

She looks down...defeated and says, "I guess I deserve that." She stands up and makes a beeline to the bathroom.

My chest aches. Fuck! Why did I have to be so damn blunt?! On the other hand, she deserves it by the way she treated me this past week. I should be angry but I just can't seem to get to that point.

If her life is what she claims it is, she seems like she could seriously use a friend. If this is some cruel joke, I'll be damned if I get sucked into it.

I'm drawn to stay and make sure she's okay but I can't be late getting back from my lunch break on my first day. I glance back to make sure I'm not forgetting anything and I see her phone sitting on the table. I quickly look towards the bathroom and back at the table...I can't just leave it there! I have to go! I grab her phone and quickly high tail it out of the restaurant and head back to work.

I jump right back into teaching but my mind is lingering on everything Cailin said. I sway back and forth between believing her and pulling my guard up just in case it's a sick joke. I wish I had a way to see straight through the bullshit and know the truth.

As I finish my second lesson since lunch, Cailin's phone begins to ring. I glance at the screen and it reads "Dad". I hope she's okay. Maybe I should pick it up, let him know that I have her phone and check on her. Would that be weird?

Before second guessing my actions, I answer the phone, "Hello?"

"Who is this?!" A panic stricken voice responds to my greeting on the other end. It's female. It's gotta be Cailin.

"This is Niall. I have your phone. I didn't want to leave it on the table and have someone steal it." I try to make it sound as minimal of a creepy gesture as possible but I feel like I'm failing epically at that.

"Oh! Thank God it's you, Niall! I was so scared I lost my phone. It's my life! Can I get it from you after work? I kinda feel naked without it."

"Of course. I'll hold onto it until then. I'm off at 6:00. Wouldn't want ya feeling naked for more than a couple hours." I make an attempt at a joke.

"Thanks. Maybe I should find a better choice of words next time." She giggles.

"Gotta go! My next lesson is here."

"Thanks again! Bye." She quickly says and disconnects the call before I can say "goodbye" back.

I'm down to my last lesson of the day and it was supposed to start twenty minutes ago. It looks like a no show.

I clock out and head back to the room to pack my guitar up and gather my belongings. I look at Cailin's phone. I wish there was a way to take a quick peek into who she really is. I push the home button and notice her and another girl on her lock screen. They appear to be dressed like Cailin was today. They are sticking their tongues out and the other girl is holding up a peace sign with two fingers. The second girl in the picture doesn't look familiar at all.

My curiosity gets the best of me and I swipe my finger across the screen. Dammit! It needs a four digit passcode. I sure don't know her well enough to even begin to guess what it might be. It's probably for the best.

I continue to pack up my things and grab the sheet of paper with the list of my students today. My eyes fall on the first name on that list, Jana. Who the fuck would have ever seen that as being Cailin coming?!...Hold on!...Jana is four letters and she said it herself that only her dad calls her that. I wonder...

I pick her phone back up and swipe the screen. The passcode request comes up. I spell out Jana (5262). Holy shit! It worked! No fucking way! I'm in!

The guilt begins to creep up on me but my curiosity is back in a fighting stance and ready to duke it out. I know it's wrong to creep on her phone but I have to figure out who this girl really is...I need to!
