Task: Take a classic story and put it into modern times. All of the stories big events must be there.
Story: Alice In Wonderland, as you can probably tell from the title.
Title: Follow the Rabbit, Alice
Stupid party. Stupid sister, stupid boredom, stupid everything. Why couldn't we just go home? Cassandra, my sister, had dragged me to this party so she could 'socialize with friends'. Of course, as per usual, her actual reason was to try and impress Zack, her crush. And what was she doing now? Reading a book. That's what she was doing. Just reading a book. She'd dragged me to this party and now she was reading a book she had found on the table, because Zack didn't want to talk to her just yet. Stupid. She'd even insisted that I wear a dress! A dress! I hate dresses, and she knew that. She had tried to get me to wear heels, but I wouldn't go that far. Instead I had shoved on my old white converse and followed her to the car, since our parents were out and they had made sure I wasn't allowed to stay home alone. Stupid. I was fifteen already, and I couldn't stay home alone? Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Everything was stupid. I yawned, tempted to fall asleep, and I sat down against a wall, my short light blue party dress poofing out slightly when the skirt spread out over my knees.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of a man in a white suit. I only saw him for about half a second, but from what I glimpsed he looked about 20(Way too old to be at a highschool party), and he was looking straight at me. His eyes met mine and he held my gaze in the second before I blinked, startled. I looked up again to see him disappearing out the door. I stood up and stared after him. Intrigued, though I don't know why, I had the sudden urge to follow him. Cassandra was still lost in her book, so I hurried past her.
"I'm going for a walk, Cass," I muttered quickly as I passed.
"What? No, Mom and Dad said- Alice!" She called after me, but I was already heading out the door. Too late, big sister. The door swung shut behind me and I saw a flash of white as I turned the corner, cutting off the sounds of the party inside. Following the man through a cluster of trees at the edge of the yard, we emerged out onto the street. Glancing over his shoulder the man seemed to speed up, and I tried to catch up to him. I was obviously too slow, and he vanished from sight again down an alleyway and around the corner.
I tailed him through the maze of alleys and behind the houses, though he always managed to stay one step ahead of me. Probably because I was in a dress. Stupid dress. Why was I even following this guy? To be honest, I had no idea. Something just compelled me to do it. It was probably dangerous, but I did it anyways.
Tripping over my own feet, I lost my balance and fell. I ripped a small hole in the hem of the dress and a tiny piece of fabric fell off, but I scrambled to my feet again and continued. I swerved around one last corner only to be met by a dead end, the man in the white suit standing at the end. I stopped, and he just watched me.
I finally got a good look at him. When I got closer I realized he looked older than 20, maybe 30? I didn't really know, because truly he looked ageless. His suit was pure white, much whiter than it had seemed before, and a golden pocket watch was tucked into the pocket. He had brown hair and a beard, and he had glasses settled on the bridge of his nose. Behind the glasses, though, his eyes twinkled with a childish gleam, as if he held a secret only he knew, and it was as if he was a child who wanted to play, though at the same time he was old, so much older than I was, so wise yet so innocent, so knowing yet so full of wonder.
Pulling out his pocket watch, he clicked it open. It glittered in the moonlight as he checked the time, and then his eyes met mine for the second time that night, nearly making my heart stop, making it pound with excitement, though I didn't know why.
