Chapter Four

Anna's POV

After crashing into Josh this morning and meeting a new friend, I have to get to my first class of the day. Ugh, English, is all I can think. I trudge into class and sit in the back of the room. As my teacher begins talking all I think about are ice blue eyes. Wait, what? Ice blue eyes? Who do I know with eyes like that? The image repeats through my mind like a message typed in morse code. It screams at me, figure me out! Figure me out! I sigh and try to pay attention to Mrs. Fang, and yes, that is her real name.

I have known Mrs. Fang since I was in kindergarten, seeing as though she is my next door neighbor. It's funny having a vampire as a next door neighbor and inviting her to potluck every other Tuesday. Oh, did I forget to mention that?

As I walk out of English class at the end of the period I run into a solid mass AGAIN. This time it is my best friend Peggy with some exciting news.

"I got into the play! I am the main lead!" she screams into my ear.

"Ouch!" I yell back. "You do realize I can hear you right? Wolf hearing, remember?"

"Sorry! Sorry! I know, I'm just so excited! Hey by the way Joshua is looking for you....and no I don't know why," she confirms seeing my confused look. Hearing Josh's name sparks something in me that says go find him! I leave Peggy and burst towards Josh's locker.

As I get closer to Josh's locker I slow down. Why am I rushing? If it was really important he would have found me right away. I tell myself to look calm and composed and I tentatively walk up to him. He seems nervous and his hair is a mess. It actually looks adorable on him but I would NEVER say that aloud. He looks up and for a minute I am memorized by his eyes. Ice blue, just the way I remember them.

"Hey I have to talk to you about something," he begins. His hand runs through he hair and his eyes look tired. He must be having a pretty bad day. I want to hug him right then and there but I have a feeling that he would never let me live it down. I am not one to show public displays of affection.

"What's wrong?" I ask, afraid to know the answer.

"We have a problem. Steven is like us. He's a wolf. Not only that, but a powerful one by the looks of it. Did you see how tall he is?"

I almost giggle.

"Are you afraid of him?" I ask.

"No!" he shouts back, clearly offended.

"Okay okay sorry! I was just kidding Josh. Geez don't bite my head off. What is wrong with Steven? He seems like a nice guy. Besides, don't forget that I have not turned yet." Males wolves always turn before females in my pack.

"He is but...I don't know, there's something funny about him. Did you see the way he just butted in and took you to school this morning? It's like he knows that you are special and he wants you for himself."

"Oh please Josh, it's not like he knows that I am the alpha's daughter." I state a matter of factly.

"You never know. Just be careful around him, please?" Josh's sad look makes my heart ache and I finally give up.

"Alright, alright. I will not hang around him too much. But...," I say as he starts to interrupt, "no promises on forever. I will keep my eye on him when I am near him, nothing more. If he approaches me and wants to talk I am not stopping him, okay? Ugh why do in always fall for your pitiful puppy dog looks? It gets me every time."

"I know." Josh says with a wolfish grin. "That's why I use them."
