Chapter Six
Joshua's POV
Watching her run rough the forest is magnificent. Not only does her golden fur swirl around her head, but her tread is light and her soft. I look down at my own paws, night black with a hint of white showing underneath my front left paw. I have always had that birthmark. It was the one part of me that did not stick out in the snow.
We run faster now, almost out of breath. Howling sounds in the distance. I hear a beautiful howl right next to me and turn to see the golden wolf with her nose high in the air. I have always seen her in my dreams but I do not know her identity. I wish I did. She is the one, my mate, and I must find her.
"Ack!" I wake up and realize that my alarm is sounding. I have to hurry if I am going to make it to visit Anna one more time before her trip to New England. She would definitely kill me if I did not give a goodbye hug, one of the few times she will hug a person, especially me, even though she claims she hugs me all of the time.
"Alright, alright, I'm going," I say to my clock as I shut it off. This is going to be a long day. I always miss Anna when she goes on a trip. It is like a part of my heart is going with her, as weird as that sounds. I hope she never finds out how much I really miss her when age is gone, although I think she has a pretty good idea.
Running through the forest for real is like nothing one has ever experienced before. The feel of the earth between my paws is amazing, and I would not trade it for the world. Being a wolf is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I hope that Anna changes soon. I have so many things to show her.
"Okay. You are sure that you have everything?" I ask as Anna and I check her bags one more time.
"Yep!" she sings out. I can already see her glowing with excitement. She has a feeling that this trip will be special, although I do not know why.
"Alright, well I guess I will be going then..." I begin to say before she lunges into my arms. We hug for a long time and I breath in the scent of her hair. She smells like fresh air and a hint of wolf. "You are starting to stink," I joke.
"Well I am glad that you like my new perfume," she replies with a smile on her face.
We give one last squeeze and she jumps into her family's car. I wave goodbye and she leans out of the window as the car rolls away, calling out farewell.
"Don't get into any trouble while I am gone! You know what I am talking about," she says with one last stern look before another smile erupts on her face and she pulls her head into the car. I know what she means, I always do, and that also means that I have to stay away from Steven. Anna does not want my prying any information out of him until she is home. I promised her that I would remain at my house until she got back, and I always keep my promises to her.
Watching the car drive quickly away, I realize that I forgot to give Anna my farewell present. I bunch my legs and spring forward, turning into a wolf safely among the trees. Sprinting after the car I dig my claws into the ground. Soon I am jogging next to Anna's window and I bark a greeting. She turns, surprised, but beams as she recognizes me.
Rolling the window down she calls out, "Forget something, did you?" I bark again and toss her present onto her lap. It is a small sterling silver chain bracelet with a golden wolf charm. We found the chain next to a lake we always visit and I added the wolf charm for good luck. She smiles at me and holds out her hand to run her fingers through my thick fur before the car turns a bend in the road and heads into the city. I slow down and once more watch the car drive off into the distance, but this time I feel as though the distance in my heart is not as great. This time I feel as if I am in the car right next to Anna, where I truly belong.
I am so sorry that I have not been on lately!!!! I promise I will do my best to update again soon! <3 School is starting and every knows how that goes. :p
