Just like everyone else, John's mind was concentrated around the new boy. It seemed that no one knew anything more than his name and that he had some connection to someone high up in the government. Everything about the boy was unusual, the way his eyes would stare at something, seeming to analyise it and expose the darkest secrets. Sometimes a small smile could be seen on his face after looking at someone. This made him even more mysterious, what could he see that others couldn't?
It took a while before the new boy came into school again. It seemed he wasn't used to being a regular attendant to school. It had been a week since John had first seen the boy and new spread (of course given by Mary) that he had back in school. Even the idea made John's heart race, the thought of seeing the boy made him terrified and excited at the same time. It seemed John's crush on Irene had been hidden deep as there was new material for him to dream about.
John groaned, maths again. Why did he choose such a dull option for an A-level? It didn't help that he had a maths lesson nearly every day now and was quickly falling behind. The boy grumbled to himself as he trudged into the classroom and slumped down at the desk, pulling out a pen and anything he could find to draw on. At that moment there was a knock on the door. The teacher looked up and nodded for them to enter. There stood the new boy in all his glory. John blinked and sat more upright.
"Financial crisis due to a divorce." The boy muttered under his breath, and John frowned, following the boy's gaze towards the teacher, who hadn't appeared to have heard,
"Ah, you must be Sherlock. Please, take a seat." He smiled. This seemed to put the boy, Sherlock, off a little and he seemed slightly unnerved at the smile but he nodded and sat down anyway. He had, presumably unknowingly, chosen the seat furthest from John and sat at the front.
John chuckled to himself, maybe maths wasn't so bad afterall.
Soon the class was over and John found himself walking towards the door. The flock of eager to leave teenagers made their way towards the door and, being unobservant, they knocked into John. The boy began to stumble and was about to fall when he felt a strong hand on his shoulder. When he glanced up, his heart fluttered. Sherlock was standing over him, his blue-green eyes staring directly at him. John gulped and stood upright,
"T-Thank you." He muttered, his cheeks reddening.
The boy nodded and released John's shoulder, "Easier than trampling you on my way out." He muttered, stepping around John and began to walk away.
John stood there, stunned, he had no idea how to respond to that. So, standing properly he began to walk behind the boy, "I'm John by the way." He called. Sherlock hesitated and stopped, looking around to see the boy,
"What... what did you say?" He asked, frowing deeply at him.
John blinked, unsure why the boy was acting so strangely, "I'm, er, John." he repeated. Sherlock seemed to be taken aback by this. He stepped forwards, looking John over, and smirked slightly,
"You're intregued by me, the 'new boy' who has mysteriously turned up at the school. In fact, it's more than that, you want to become alliences with me, quite a mistake if I say so myself. You and I are completely different, and, if you had any idea who I am, you'd know that." Sherlock said quickly, with a satisfied smirk on his face.
John blinked and tried to catch up with what Sherlock had said. The other boy simply rolled his eyes and turned away, "Come on." He called back to John, who looked unsure and glanced around,
"Wait, me?" He asked, confused by the boy,
Sherlock frowned, "Yes, who else?" He asked as if John was completely stupid, "Hurry up or we'll be late."
