I glared at the ceiling. Just yesterday I had been adopted by my new foster parents. Not to mention my new enrollment at Harvard High.
Gray wisps of aura appeared around my room. Those meddling ghosts were near. "Go away" I muttered. The gray wisps continued to fly around me.
"Medium" Mrs. Huff called, (A.K.A my new mom). "Come and eat breakfast she said. I sighed getting up and slowly taking my time to go downstairs. Down the fancy stairs with mahogany railing. This family...was a rich family. Why they adopted me? I have no idea.
I walked over to the dining room and sat down in a white chair. A plate of pancakes sat in front of me. "Took you long to come down," Mrs. Huff sighed turning her seat away from me. I shrugged.
Another figure appeared in the corner of my eye. I turned and found Owan standing there, watching us.
Owan was this family's real son. He had red curly hair and freckles that were so obvious from far away. His black eyes studied us. For me, Owan seemed like a geek but that didn't stop me from trying to talk to him. (Even though I didn't really care)
"Well don't just stand there. Come and sit" Mrs. Huff smiled. He nodded and took his seat across from me.
I reached for the syrup and gently poured it over my pancakes. "So today is your first day" Mrs. Huff said. I grabbed my fork and ate. "Are you nervous?" Mrs. Huff asked, "I mean you don't have to worry about that. Owan will help you get through the day."
I looked at her, "That's okay he doesn't hav----" "I'll do it" Owan mumbled. A bit of blush spreading across his cheeks.
Mrs. Huff gave him an appreciated look, "Wonderful." I swallowed. Was he serious?

Owan walked closer to me than I expected. His shoulder kept brushing against mine as we entered the school. A whole bunch of students crowded the halls.
"Um...I think we should go in the office and get your schedule" Owan mumbled. I followed him as we made our way through the crowd and into a room that smelled like air freshener had been sprayed.
"Good morning Owan" a cheerful voice said.
A plump woman stood at the front counter with a pen on her ear. "Oh and I have a feeling this might be Medium" she gave me a warm smile that only seemed creepy.
I nodded right when Owan opened his mouth to talk, "Yeah um can I get her schedule for today?" "Of course" she started fumbling through her drawers. "One thing you should know, there is only one girl in the school who is gossipy and...perfect I guess" Owan said quietly. I looked at him, "Um what does this have to do with anything? Is she your crush?"
"No! I'm just saying as a heads-up. This girl can be a real pain in the...you know (I rolled my eyes since he couldn't say the word) and believe me she doesn't like competition. She's not all that perfect actually. Just a girl who thinks she's better than others" Owan explained. Apparently Owan had gotten rejected by her.
I shrugged not caring at all.
"Okay here you go. Have a nice day" the woman handed us the paper and for some reason I caught a glimpse of a figure in the corner of my eye. A figure that was right next beside me.
I turned and it was gone.

Every class I had was with Owan so I guess you could say I was lucky to not be alone on my first day but unfortunately he only talked with his friends throughout the whole lesson in Calculus.
I didn't even know he had any.
His friends involved a dark-skinned girl with curly golden hair and chocolaty eyes. She looked like a princess from a foreign country. Owan's other friend was a guy. He had blond hair and light blue eyes with black tinted sun glasses pushed back onto his head.
I sighed and just put my head down. Whispers from the ghosts floating near me kept bothering me.
I muttered something unintelligently and suddenly the whispers got loud. "Please don't" someone said loud enough for me to hear. I jerked up and looked at the air beside me.
Nothing was there.
It was...unusual. I had never been able to hear them clearly. Which was weird cause I just had.
"Who's the fox?" someone said. "That's Medium" Owan's replied. I looked at him. The blond guy with glasses was smiled at me. "She's my new um step-sister" Owan said shyly. "What luck you have then" the blond guy grinned giving Owan a playful punch on his arm.
The foreign princess stared at me with her chocolate eyes opened wide with curiosity. "That's Nageeta, you must excuse her, she seems to like staring at new people" the blond guy introduced with a smirk. Nageeta blushed and looked down, embarrassed. "I'm Caleb" the blond guy said.
An awkward silence passed between us. No one spoke for like 10 minutes until Nageeta cleared her throat and spoke, "Um I hope you enjoy it here. It's not such a bad school." Her accent seemed foreign in a very smooth fluent way.
"I don't plan on enjoying it here" I sighed. "Oh" Nageeta mumbled looking down. I felt sad for her a bit so I continued on, "Have you enjoyed it so far?" "Well...yes. I have been friends with...them (she gave them a plain look as she glanced at them) for a long time" she said. I nodded. So Owan wasn't a friendless loser after all.
The bell rang. I got up and grabbed my stuff. Owan trailing not far behind as I walked out. Again, a figure stood in the corner of my eye. I turned and only caught a glimpse of a golden aura surrounding the figure before it disappeared.
(Spoiler Alert: Hot guy coming soon in next chapter. Not so much romance yet but please be patient...yeah I hate being patient too. I don't blame you)
