Prologue

Mount Justice, November 14, 2011

"Wait, wait, wait." said a Romani 14-year-old boy in a Robin suit with hair as black as the night sky. "You want us to go to Cadmus? As in the Cadmus that we destroyed last year?"

A red robot with a blue cape nodded. "Yes, Robin, that Cadmus."

"But Red Tornado," a freckled 17-year-old boy with fiery red hair in a yellow suit with a lightning bolt emblazoned on his chest protested. "That place is gone. Destroyed. Dubblilex had to totally shut it down due to budget cuts. It's more dead than Artemis' soul!" He was rewarded for that comment by a punch in the shoulder by his girlfriend, a Vietnamese girl that was the same age as him with blonde hair holding a bow and arrow. "Ow! That was totally unnecessary."

Artemis Crock scowled. "Wally, I swear, say something like that again and I'll hurt more than just your shoulder."

Wally West, aka Kid Flash, jumped behind a muscular boy with hair as black as his Superman shirt. He poked his head out from behind Connor Kent, also known as Superboy, and pointed at his girlfriend. "Threat! Threat! I feel threatened!" He looked around at his teammates. "Hello! Anybody gonna save the most important and beloved member of this team?"

Bumblebee, a dark skinned girl with an outfit resembling a bee and Batgirl, a red headed girl the same age as Robin, looked away awkwardly. Wally's jaw dropped.

"Aw, come on!" he groaned as Artemis chuckled.

"'Most beloved', huh?" she mocked good-naturedly.

"In case you two lovers haven't noticed, we're getting briefed for a mission." A dark skinned girl with short black hair interrupted.

"Thank you, Rocket." said Red Tornado. "As I was saying, Batman believes that Cadmus is up and running again, in the same place where Superboy was created." He explained, referring to how the half-Kryptonian was cloned from Superman's DNA in the Cadmus laboratory.

"If this is true," Aqualad, a dark skinned boy with blonde hair and gills on his neck began. "Then we need to investigate."

"Ditto." Zatanna, a 15-year-old girl with brown hair and a magician outfit said at the same time Miss Martian, a green skinned Martian with red hair, said, "Agreed."

"Alright." Aqualad began as Red Tornado walked away, having finished the briefing. "Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash, Artemis, Batgirl and myself will check Cadmus out. Rocket, Bumblebee, Miss Martian, and Zatanna will go to Chicago. I've heard rumors of Killer Frost being there."

Bumblebee scowled in annoyance at not being chosen for the Cadmus mission, however she bit her tongue as her and the rest of the Team set off on their missions. Robin, Superboy, Batgirl, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Artemis opted to take their motorcycles instead of taking the Bio-Ship.

"Not that I'm questioning your leadership skills, Aqualad," Superboy began over his com-link after they'd made it to the highway. "But why take so many of us on this mission? Are you trying to get us caught?"

Aqualad shook his head. "We'll need backup in case a repeat of July 4, 2010 happens. Also, you and I together can pull apart locked doors, Robin and Batgirl can hack the systems, Artemis can shoot enemies long range, Kid Flash is here because he was with Robin and I whenever we found you."

Robin, who was listening to the conversation, started speaking to Kid Flash. "Personally, I think you're only here for comic relief, KF." he stated.

Kid Flash grinned. "Well, I am hilarious. It's only one of the many things that make me the loveable person that I am."

"Mm-hmm." Batgirl deadpanned. "Sure."
