Blue had decided that her sixteenth year, she would focus on her list. She hadn’t told Brody or Jane (her best friends) yet, and she was hoping against hope that her moms wouldn’t find out. Who knew how much trouble she could get in.

A week had passed since her encounter with Pretty Eye Guy and she decided it was time to fulfill number two on her list. So she ran the last few blocks home and slammed the front door behind her. She skimmed her fingers along the stair railing as she ran up to her room, swinging her bag down on her bed and pulling the briefcase out. Excitedly, she unfolded the crinkling paper and smoothed it out on her leg.

☑ #1: Hug the first person I see on the streets

☐ #2: Sleep under the stars (no tent or anything; just on the grass)

Blue jumped the last three steps and swung around the banister to grab a breakfast bar from the kitchen.

“Hey, Mama,” she kissed her mother on the cheek, making her smile before turning to leave. Ever since she could remember, Blue had distinguished her mothers by Mama and Mommy. Otherwise, when she called for Mom, both of them came and anyone could imagine how frustrating that was for all three of them.

“Where are you going?” Mama asked from the table.

                “Out.”

“Where out?” she pried with narrowed eyes and Blue sighed with annoyance, rolling her eyes.

                “Out to Brody’s house.”

“I hope you’re not having sex,” she called after her and Blue smirked.

“Against the wall,” she threw over her shoulder. Even though they put on the façade of caring about Blue having a boy for one of her best friends, they didn’t really.

                “Bye, baby,” she called.

Like that.

Of course, Blue wasn’t really going to Brody’s house. No, she was going next door. She jogged up the three deck steps and knocked against the door, making her knuckles pink. A moment later a Pretty Eye Guy lookalike but slightly older and with scruff on his jaw opened the door. The only thing on him was a pair of faded jeans hanging low on his waist and Blue fought to keep her eyes on his. Unlike his brother, this guy had completely gray eyes and she found that she liked unable to decide ones better.

“Hey,” the boy said and Blue blinked.

“Hi. Um…uh,” this was where not knowing his name became a problem. “Is your brother home?” The boy—or man—smirked and slid his eyes down her body. Blue was suddenly uncomfortable, shifting from foot to foot uncertainly.

“He’s here,” another voice piped up from behind him and with a nod, the older boy turned, walking away.

                “Got yourself a girl, Ollie?”

                “No. Go away, Alex.”

“Alex” ruffled “Ollie’s” already messy hair and “Ollie” swatted the hand away before walking to the door. Blue was more than relieved when she saw that he was wearing a black shirt with his jeans. Not that it did anything to lessen his beauty. Blue blushed and sent him a small smile, which he didn’t return.
