Dear mom,

I woke up this morning thinking the world wasn't worth living in, feeling like I wasn't worth the trouble...
But then I walked into the kitchen to see her with everyone else, the adults, and the students, breakfast on the table, all of them belting out "Happy Birthday!", Ellie with that breathtaking smile on her beautiful face, she ignited a different fire in me, one that I've never experienced before, she brought emotion back into my life.
I turned seventeen today. I realized I found a family I belong in, and you did too. I hope you live a wonderful life full of beautiful memories and moments that make the worst ones worth living through, just as I have.
The bird is flying free now with no restraints and on a path to find home.

I turn to gaze outside the window when I spot a bird landing in their home, little miniature birds surrounding it.

"Maybe I have found home." I huff out with a grin spreading across my face.

Letting my eyes wander, spotting others walking through the halls to get to their destination, students laughing with one another.

Arms are thrown around my neck in an embrace and a head is rested upon my shoulder.

"I'd say you have." I turn to Ellie and let my gaze connect with hers, emotions I thought I'd never have bubbling up within.

"I guess I have." My mouth is on hers and if this is what home feels like, I never want to leave.

THE END
