~ Draco Malfoy
Time had stopped. Wasn't everything supposed to stop with it?
Draco could still feel his veins pumping brimmed with blood, his thoughts endless water streaming from copper taps. Every minuscule hair on his goose bumped body stood erect, platinum spikes in the cold corridor. He was torn, fire and ice blending into his cells.
The Mudblood was crying.
Crying.
It was like he had never seen a human before, a mere babe in a world of eccentric spirits. She hadn't seen him yet, and he wished with strong desperation that he could say the same. He had never been so trapped; her obvious grief seemed to roll onto him, his distress that of a live body being buried in a grave.
Like so many times before his legs failed him as his mind struggled to process the situation while maintaining normal body functions.
A sharp gasp provoked his head to look up. Finally the Mudblood had noticed him, his subconscious sneered. He looked back at her, determined to play this situation out. He could use this to his advantage he concurred, dismissing the weak human protest his heart had made to spare her. He would have to deal with his traitorous heart after...
Her head was bowed now, hair a poor curtain around her face that did nothing to hide the track stains of fresh tears. She didn't even seem to be registering his presence, which irritated him more. A look of faraway disengagement pooled in her caramel eyes. She was making no effort to wipe the onslaught of water, shoulders rhythmically bobbing to her now quietening sobs.
Before he could eject his acid taunts or that's what he told himself, she briefly closed the distance between them in a rush. The sudden movement distracted him, feeling like the needle of a broken compass, his darned mind was useless he concluded.
He finally realized that she had leaned into him, forehead pressed to his chest, dangerously close to his wildly thumping heart. She didn't make an effort to enclose him in her arms however, no this wasn't a hug. The Mudblood was using him as a pillar. He gathered his speech, ready to attempt anything again, but body function was lost.
Maybe she had spelled him?
Her scent assaulted him now, weakening his crumbling resolve further, and his mind lost its fight. Something pulled at his heart strings, a sensation so foreign it threatened to linger in the recess of his body's cavities.
He hated himself, hated his world, his entire existence just then. He had the worst luck. Salazar knew now would have been the perfect time to strike, the Mudblood alone, scared, weak. Walking right into him. Maybe he would have in his better days, all the time he spent trying to dethrone the school's golden trio. He should be punished for letting this precious opportunity go by.....This was a gift, a feast served waiting to be ravished.
He could have blackmailed her, picked her brains for anything, hell he could have killed her. Maybe she was allowing herself to be this vulnerable because she was still in her sorrow haze. Maybe he was letting her seek comfort against his chest because her vulnerability intrigued him.
Moments passed before he felt her body stilled and straightened like a board. Draco felt her draw back slightly and with familiar shock looked at his hand which seemed to draw back to his torso. He had been stroking her curls slightly. He had been comforting her unconsciously.
His hand had touched the Mudblood....
His eyes widened and his ivory skin paled impossibly.
He swallowed and watched her figure turn around and walk back into the dark depths of the castle.
It was official. Draco Malfoy was a nutter.
