Trust Me

We ran, fast and hard not looking back till we were deep in the forest, I was tired but Kosti kept saying we needed to be farther away before it happens. I didn't understand him, I couldn't understand anything going on around me. I was lost in my thoughts trying to find out some sort of understanding when I remembered the necklace, I had left it with the card on my beside table. I stopped and turned around suddenly racing back to the house, I had to have that necklace, I just needed to have it with me. I could hear Konstantin yelling for me to stop but it only made me push harder to make it back home.

It was a stupid gut feeling an impulse that needed to be sated and I knew I could get in and out fast, without even being seen I just had to make it home before whatever "It" happened. I was almost to the back door when a gust of wind brushed by me knocking me to the ground. I was on my hands and knees scrambling to get through the door before my brother could catch up to me, finally getting a hold on the door I pulled myself up and in racing through hallways to my room. Out of breath I slowly opened my door, I spotted the necklace and walked towards it but something blocked my path. Frustrated I pushed against it only to realize it had a heartbeat and was warm to the touch. I looked up to see a man smiling down at me holding the necklace in front of me. It dangled in his grasp glistening in the moonlight lightly swinging from the movement of being picked up the gem sent off small slivers of light dancing on the floor.

He stepped towards me still holding the necklace and smiling, he was tall and quite handsome with his raven black hair curling behind his ears and resting on his shoulders. I couldn't help but stare at him, the clothing, the smile, the fluid movements with which he used to cross the floor to me, it was like a dream. He made no sounds not even his shoes clicked against the floor, he motioned with his hands for me to turn around and I found myself following the silent command. It was then that I could hear his footsteps stop just behind me, I wanted to turn around but stopped when I felt my hair being pushed to the side and a small chain being settled around my neck. With a small snap, the necklace was fastened and resting comfortably around my neck, the metal was warm against my skin instead of cold like I thought it would be. I raised my hand to touch it but was brought back to reality when a soft chuckle moved the hair against my skin. I turned around to face the man and tipped my head to the side memorizing every inch of him, it felt as though I knew him but I couldn't place from where. He stepped back and dipped his head in my direction and then spoke. It was soft and yet rough at the same time, it stuck me to the core and I wanted to hear more but he had already disappeared as I tried to remember what it was he said.

"Aveţi Încredere În mine" what the hell did that mean? Why are people suddenly using another language around me? Was there something I was missing and I had some unknown ability to understand languages and I was just left out of the loop?

"Stela," Kosti said behind me slightly out of breath looking around at everything with a very critical eye. He grabbed my shoulder and began pulling me out of my room, I couldn't do anything but follow still trying to figure out who that man was and why he felt so familiar to me.

"Kosti? Can I ask you something? I know you know more Romanian than I do so can you tell me what this means?" He looked down at me with a quizzical look before nodding at me to continue.

"Aveţi Încredere În mine" I recited to him keeping my eyes focused on the path ahead of us. He smiled when he recognized some of the words and then proceeded to give me the rough translation.

"Trust me, it means trust me, Stela. Did dad say this to you before we left?" I shook my head and looked at Kosti out of the corner of my eye.

"No." I decided to lie about when I had heard it and instead told him about my party and how someone had said it to me then.
