Chasing Nightmares.

I shot up in my bed, sweating and scraping at my sheets with my fingernails as I tried to steady my labored breathing. I allowed my eyes to adjust to the darkness. I stole a glance at the clock as my breathing evened out. It was just now 3:00 in the morning.

Damn nightmares. I hated them. They always woke me up around the same time. Always around 3:00 in the morning, give or take a little. This had continued every night for a week now, and I was starting to get sick of losing sleep. However, I believe it to be just something I'm currently going through, which will eventually pass. Or at least that's what I told myself.

My bare torso glistened with sweat as I stood up in the darkness, making my way over to my dresser and grabbing my shirt. I walked into the bathroom, shirt in hand. I shut the door behind me and lay my shirt on the sink before looking into the mirror.

My tan completed features stared back at me with raven hair and dark eyes. I shook my head at myself, turning my focus away from the mirror as I turned on the cold water tap. I gave myself a quick glance in the mirror before splashing my face with the ice cold water.

Deciding that it did nothing to wake me up or refresh me, I shut off the tap and quickly wiped off my face. I stared at my reflection in the mirror as I debated with myself. I finally decided just to take a cold shower.

I stripped of all clothing and gently turned the faucet on, pulling up the part that turns on the shower head. I stepped beneath the lukewarm water and let it flow over me, shuddering lightly at how cool it was.

I let my thoughts overtake me and I let my head roam back to the dream I had. I closed my eyes and I tried to remember it. Squeezing my eyes shut and cupping my hands over them, I tried to remember what I was doing, where I was, even the faintest of an idea of what was going on. Nothing came to me. Nothing at all, much less the important details.

I groaned in frustration and turned off the shower. I stepped out and toweled dry before going into my room. I was naked as the day I was born as I searched through my drawers and grabbed a pair of boxers, slipping them onto my thin body.

A quiet buzz coming from my nightstand made me jump and I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized it was just my phone. I crossed the room and picked up the phone, squinting my eyes to see the screen. I finally gave up and admitted that my eyesight was shit before grabbing my glasses off the nightstand and putting them on. I allowed my eyes to adjust to the brightness of the screen as I clicked it on again, finally being able to see. I noticed the notification.

I smirked at Jack. He knew what time it was for me. I wondered quietly for a moment what he may have wanted right now.

I sighed before sliding the notification, putting in the passcode for my phone, and looked at the text.

Jackaboy 3:25 AM.
Hey Mark. I know it's early for you and all, but I wanted to know if we could collaborate soon.

I looked over his text and ran a hand through my bangs. We hadn't collaborated in awhile. I wonder if he was starting to miss me? He bought flight tickets last week and would be here by the end of the month, so I'd be seeing him soon. Couldn't it wait?

As much as I love my buddy, I'd be seeing him soon. Besides, I had to get my head together and my sleeping schedule on track before I started getting depressed.

I hesitated and pinched the bridge of my nose and sent out a reply.

Me 3:30 AM
