After The Storm Blows Through

Chapter Thirty: Part II

I am bumming Maddie and Tae's song "After The Storm Blows Through" for Lexi. That song just happened to come on when I was trying to think of a title for this book.

Lexi's POV

A little while later I gave Brantley a kiss on the cheek and headed backstage to change for my performance. I was so damn nervous. Monaco and I had worked for a week to get the photo slides right. Trish helped me change out my dresses. She unclipped my hair and let it fall around my shoulders before touching up my makeup. She also put a light coating of makeup on my hand to cover up the forming bruise.

A stage assistant came by and reminded me I had five minutes. After blotting my lipstick, I hurried out and met up with my band. Someone helped me get my ear monitors in before attaching the battery pack then  handed me my mic. Stacey gave me a big hug before heading to take her mark. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to get in the zone. I was pulled out  of it by an arm dropping around my shoulders. I opened them to see Carrie standing there with Brad with a huge grin on her face. She gave me a quick grin and a wink.

"Way to go girl. I've been wanting someone to do that for years. I missed my chance to get her after the CMT Awards last year when she grabbed Mike's butt at an after party," she said as Brad started laughing and gave me a high five. They wished me luck and moved on to go do a wardrobe change. I heard someone call thirty seconds.

Brantley's POV

I had a soft smile on my face as the lights lowered as slides of a storm played on the screens surrounding the stage. The music started and I could see Lexi slowly making her way to the front through the low fog that was drifting. It swirled around her storm grey dress as she walked. I watched mesmerized as she began to sing. I got to see her sing all the time but she still never failed to blow me away. I never wanted to get tired of the awe and love I felt watching her sing.

You've been walking around with a dark cloud

Wish I had the words to tell ya, but I got an umbrella
