My Aged Eyes
I see things so much differently now
Not because my eyes
Have weakened with age
But
Because these aged eyes
Have pretty much seen it all
Some feel that with age
Comes wisdom
The older you are
The wiser you are
I do not consider myself a wise man
Not with the mistakes
I have made
But I did learn
From those mistakes
And I made Damn sure
I didn't make the same mistakes again
Even at my age
I am still learning
And
I am certainly not arrogant enough to believe
There is nothing more to learn
Or experience
But in that same breath
I am not arrogant enough to believe
That I can still learn
At the same level
I am not a wealthy man
At least not in the monetary sense
But my years
Have given me a wealth of experience
This does not mean
I have all the answers
But
I do have the knowledge gained
Through my experience
And that
I am willing to share
I can't tell you what to do
You have to learn
You have to make mistakes
You have to fall
But
If you allow me
I can help make the fall
Less painful
I have lived
What you are living
I have seen the grey
The black
The emptiness
But
I have also seen
The joy
The love
The fulfillment
If I have learned anything
I have learned
Time
Is the greatest healer
Friends
True friends
Are the greatest comfort
And
Family
Family
Is
Everything
These aged eyes
Have seen a lot
And they may tire easily
But
They have retained
All they have seen
Come
Let me share
See the world
For a moment
Through
My aged eyes
