Chapter 52 - Tobias
Christina and I walk, laughing together, standing at the front of the pack. Peter stands behind me, his eyes larger than usual as he takes in the compound for what he thinks is the first time. It's been almost and hour since he reset his memory, and he has finally succeeded in learning both mine and Christina's names. As Christina pushes open the door, the smile fades immediately from my face. Cara sits at a table, and ice pack pressed to her forehead. Across from her is Tris. Her left elbow is heavily bandaged. She sits with her knees pulled up to her chest, and her head rests between them, her big blue eyes huge and watering. She rocks back and forth slowly.
"Tris," I say. I drop my bags and run to her. "What happened?" She shakes her head, her lips sealed, and pulls her legs closer to herself.
I look to Cara, who shakes her head, telling me not to pry, so I walk over to her instead.
"What happened?" I ask her quietly.
"It's Caleb," she says.
"What about Caleb? Didn't he go into the death serum?" I whisper to Cara, confused.
She looks at me. "Tris went into the lab. Caleb couldn't stop her. The death serum doesn't affect her. But.....David found Tris, and Caleb-" Cara shakes her head. Then she looks up at me, "Four, Caleb saved Tris's life."
