Chapter 3

SLAM! I jump out of my bed and grab my lamp, ready to attack whoever just broke down my door when I realise, of course, it's my freaking roommate.

"Jesus, Beth. You gave me a heart attack. And before you say it, I know, I'm a med student, but that doesn't mean I'm immortal now, or can save myself from dea-"

"DID I JUST SEE AIDEN STEVENS WALK OUT FROM OUR HALLWAY?" Beth practically screams at me.

"Um, yeah... He was talking to me for a minute..." Beth lets out a huge sigh, sits down and starts massaging her head. "Have I taught you nothing? If Aiden Stevens, or any guy of that calibre of hotness, is talking to you, you damn well make sure you stay talking for longer than one measly minute!!!"

Meet Beth Smith, everybody; My loud, bubbly, Makes-Friends-With-People-She-Has-Known-For-One-Second, crazy smart best friend. It just so happens, we share a dorm and about 3 classes. So I literally cannot escape her, not matter how hard I try...

"Beth, calm down. I am not interested nor is he interested in me. If anything, he hates me. I joked about him getting shown up by our professor!"

Beth looks at me with a straight face for a silent twenty seconds before launching into what seems like a prepared speech.

"Okay, since when do feelings matter? Aiden is a fine specimen and once you get to know him, I'm sure you'll fall in love and get married and have three children but, as for now, at least talk to the guy for longer than A MINUTE."

I look at her with unwavering boredom.

"You are a lost cause. Do you know how many girls would be reacting to AIDEN STEVENS the way you are right now? NONE. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NONE. "

"And this matters to me why, Beth?"

She looks at me one last time before crashing onto her bed. "I have a migraine. I can't deal with your perpetual singledom right now."

"I'll make you some tea"
