The Hidden Heiress [3]
Math is such a bore. Even though I’m pretty good at this subject, the teacher’s face looks like a crazy clown from an asylum. Too my luck, Princess Ardana’s schedule is like mine. In a phrase: I’M GONNA SEE HER AT EVERY SUBJECT, DARN IT. Ardana is busy jotting down notes trying to look angelic when deep inside she’s more like demonic.
“Pass all your assignments forward.” Mr. Garwin, our math teacher commanded. I searched for my paper that made me stay up until one in the morning. I really made sure I’d get a perfect A in this Math homework. I was about to pass my homework when Ardana’s hand shot up.
“Mr. Garwin, can we pass our assignments tomorrow?” She pouted her lips at Mr. Garwin, is she trying to seduce our creepy math teacher? Inside me, I’m so glad Ardana forgot her homework; I mean why does she want the assignment to be passed tomorrow if she did her homework right? I love my brain.
“Ardana, that can’t be possible.” Mr. Garwin said. Make me proud Mr. Garwin! Scold that Princess! Eeek, that sounds gross.
“Mr. Garwin, as you may have noticed. A lot of us didn’t have the time to make the math homework, my classmates attended my ball last night because our family is in this city.” What an excuse.
“Mr. Garwin! I have my assignment, can I just pass it today?” I almost screamed at him, I want a perfect A. I haven’t been called timid before; Ardana gave me the biggest eye roll ever. I rolled my eyes at her too.
“Hannah, didn’t you attend the ball too?” He asked.
“I didn’t invite her Sir.” Ardana said and that gave me heaps of laughter from my classmates.
“Because I was determined to finish the assignment sir.” Bring it on Princess, I don’t care if you’re royalty or not. I can fight, even though I’m just Hannah.
“Assignments will be passed tomorrow Hannah.” Talk about being biased.
“I win then.” The wicked royal gave me a dirty look then went back on copying notes. The final bell rang, it’s gym and I’m dreading to go into the girl’s locker, knowing Ardana must be plotting against me.
~
I waited for the second bell before I went inside the girl’s locker room. I was expecting girls to be chatting and gossiping as always, but silence is just deafening inside the room. That’s when I heard a voice that belongs to someone, it’s Ardana, and I tiptoed towards where I heard her say something. I hid behind a locker and saw her talking to someone at the phone.
“Yes Mother… I won’t let her know anything about it… She has no clue… I’ll be the queen, don’t worry…I have to go.” Did I just hear something about her being a queen? Why does her voice sound so worried? I’m so puzzled when I forgot I’m standing behind a locker, I accidentally punched the locker.
“Awww.” I mumbled painfully, I hope she didn’t hear me.
“Is someone there?” She began calling out, when she looked relieved, she went out of the door.
“What was that about?” I was panting heavily, I hope my asthma won’t kick in. I quickly changed into gym clothes when I heard the third bell, I’m late, I jolted out of the locker room and into the gymnasium that is not that far away. All classes are starting so the halls are cleared. I started running like I’m on a marathon until I can’t breathe anymore. I know it’s not healthy, but it’s better than being tardy.
I finally reached the gymnasium, a lot of students are already there. I saw Martha beside some guy I haven’t seen before, besides Matt, Martha is my only girl friend.
“Hey Martha.” I approached her; she smiled at me and pulled me closer trying to say something.
“You’re late, thank God Coach Peterson isn’t here yet.” A wave of relief washed me, thank God Coach Peterson isn’t here yet or else I might get detention just for coming in late.
Coach Peterson finally arrived carrying balls for volleyball, damn, I hate sports, I only know how to play badminton and volleyball is my most hated sport. I have been hit in the face a few times before because of my lacking skill at it. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Blair trying to sneak in to class. She’s late and she’s going to get detention! Yehey! What a great day.
But to my astonishment, Coach Peterson didn’t notice Blair. Is he blind or just plain dumb? What an idiot. Coach Peterson looked at all of us and nodded, he told us to take our sits.
“Ardana, I assigned you to tell me who came in late. Can you tell me?” Coach Peterson told Ardana. Oh yeah! Blair is going down.
“Only Hannah sir.” I opened my mouth in shock, she blurted that I’m late and Blair isn’t? What the hell?
“But sir, Bla…” Coach Peterson cut off my sentence. I saw Blair giving me a you’re-dead-if-you-tell-him-I’m-late look.
“You’re getting detention Hannah.” He gave me a detention slip.
“But sir.”
“No buts Hannah.” I groaned in frustration when the strange boy beside Martha raised his hand.
“I came in late too sir.” I gaped at him, he didn’t came in late. Why is he saying this?
“Well then Sean, get your slip here. You and Hannah are going to be on detention together.” Sean stood up and snatched the slip from Coach Peterson when he went back to sit, he gave me a wink then a smile.
Who is this boy? And am I suppose to know him?
