The Hidden Heiress [2]
The cafeteria might be the best thing that was built. It’s the only place I never get bullied, I don’t really know why but the cafeteria might have a potion that makes the brains of the bullies switch from being rude to being a sleeping angel.
I spotted Matt, my best friend who is lining at the counter getting pizza. I walked towards him when I saw Ardana beside him. I don’t want to say Ardana is flirting with Matt, but it’s pretty obvious she is. I mean what is with the sudden fluttering of her eyelashes; it’s so fast I barely had time to blink.
Who could blame Matt? He is ridiculously good-looking, plays soccer at our school and is an all time hottie, even Blair has eyes on him. Why do you think Blair hates me so much? She’s jealous of my friendship with Matt. Matt’s dad, Mr. Bo, is my dad’s boss, and ever since then, Matt and I started hanging out whenever I visit my dad during work.
I tapped Matt’s shoulder, Ardana suddenly glared at me.
“Hey Hannah!” Matt beamed; Ardana’s face grew pale. Maybe it’s because she blinks very fast? Or her corset is so tight that her cleavage can be seen at a fifty-meter radius.
“This is Ardana.” Matt introduced Ardana, as if I don’t know her.
“Princess Ardana, please.” Woah. Wait. What?! Did I just hear the princess right? I should call her princess? I mean I know I should call her princess but she told the class this morning she wants to be called Ardana. This royal bitch is getting in my nerves. Matt might think the same because his face registers confusion.
“I have to go Matt, come to my ball later?” Princess Ardana murmured in her high pitch voice.
“I can’t, Hannah here will teach me Math…”
“Math? I didn’t kno…” Matt gave me a wink and I understood right away he doesn’t want to go to Ardana’s ball. Ardana raised her eyebrow at Matt.
“Hannah must have forgotten about this, she forgets a lot.” I do? I remember my memory is sickly good. “Maybe sometime soon, okay Princess?” Matt walked away from Ardana holding his tray nervously.
“You got nervous didn’t you?” I asked him trying to ignore the fact that his hands are shaking.
“I did not! I just don’t want to be with that Ardana, she’s bad news.”
“Tell me about it, I forgot I still have to get something to eat!” I shrieked nervously at Matt. Lunch is finishing in fifteen minutes and the line at the cafeteria is getting longer and longer.
“Don’t worry pig, I can share my food.” I shot Matt a look.
“I’m not a pig and thanks.” I shook my head disapprovingly at his comment about me being a pig. I know that I eat too much but food is what I love. I can eat a box of pizza and I don’t think by that it’s okay for people to call me a pig, right?
“Do you want to eat outside? The weather is pretty nice.” I nodded at Matt. We went out of the cafeteria and found our usual spot, a big oak tree that is standing at the top of a small hill, east of our school. It’s still part of the school property; our school is an environmentalist heaven.
We sat down at the parch, see green of grass that smells like the dry earth. Rain is scarce in our city. Our city could be called tropical even though our country isn’t.
“Matt, why do you still hang out with me?” Matt was caught off-guard by my sudden question; even I was a little bit baffled by what came out of my mouth.
Curiosity kills.
“Why did you ask that stupid question Han?” He chewed on his pizza; he gave me half of the mouthwatering pepperoni.
