The Hidden Heiress [6]

Our Directress, Ms. Hendricks, began on adjusting the microphone so she could begin her speech. “Dear students, faculty, teachers, and honorable guests,” Ms. Hendricks looked at the royal family when her mouth let out the word guests, Martha and I just sighed feeling completely bored and agitated.

“Students, you may have noticed that Princess Ardana of Merdana is now enrolled here, and I gave you all my gratitude for showing the Princess your kindness, and now I would like to welcome to the stage your highness, Queen Florence of Merdana.” Everyone clapped and were all gawking at the frail Queen walking towards the stage.

The Queen cleared her throat and began speaking. “Good morning everyone,” she gave us her heart warming smile,  “I would like to give my biggest thanks to all of you for accepting my granddaughter, Princess Ardana.” Ardana looked so smug when the Queen pointed at her, I looked at Martha and we both rolled our eyes.

“The coronation of Ardana is near, and it would be great if all of you could come next month at the palace, I would like to clear out things about rumors that are flying around this city.” Students and teachers gasped in sync like they were briefed about what to do in the assembly.

“The first rumor is about the lost princess,” I nudged at Martha, she whispered at me about the princess and I nod at her that the one the Queen is talking about is the same princess that we heard at the sewing lab.

“I didn’t know about a lost princess.” I heard Blair’s booming voice at the back of the seat. Everyone started whispering about the lost princess but it came all to a halt when the Queen cleared her throat looking tired like she’s about to faint at any moment.

“There was a rumor that is stating the lost princess might be in this city, the daughter of my late daughter Princess Sofia.” Voice of murmurs started to be heard again, “As you all know, my daughter is missing for more than seventeen years and we don’t know if she bare a child or not, so we would like to put a stop to this one, this rumor might shake up the reputation of the royal family and I would like to tell you not to spread this.”

I can see Matt in the field playing soccer; he looks so carefree, so boy-next-door, not caring about the current situation about the royal family. And I shouldn’t really care about the royal family either, who am I to be worried about this? But there’s like this little vein in my brain that wants me to be concerned and find out what is really the truth about the rumors.

“The second rumor is about Princess Sofia, people are now talking that my late daughter is alive. I don’t want to say late but my daughter was so lost for a long time that my niece, Princess Reagan already confirmed that my daughter is dead, and it is better knowing she’s safe above rather than worrying where she might be lurking around.” The Queen finished her speech with that, and now Princess Reagan, Ardana’s mom will be talking, using her husky voice that Martha and I purely disgusts.

“The royal family would be very please if all of you would stop believing this rumors…” She began speaking, but those rumors aren’t really false, maybe Princess Sofia is really alive, maybe the lost princess is just around here.

“With the upcoming coronation next month, I will be roaming around your school campus to ensure my daughter’s safety inside the school grounds,” Like the barbed wire, electric fence and dozens of guards won’t be able to protect Princess Ardana.

“You would see a lot of me here in your school, so don’t be so surprised okay? I think that’s all the Queen and I would like to say, does someone in this assembly have questions? Please speak up and I’ll give you an answer.”

“Does the royal family know why Princess Sofia went missing?”  A tall boy with flaming red hair asked from the back, Princess Reagan was caught off guard by this question.

Reagan smiled and began tapping the microphone, “We have no idea.” She simply said but the red head began on asking a follow up question.

“I believe that the royal family have guards and safety is surely secured around the castle, right? But how can it be that the Princess got kidnapped?” Reagan began on wiping bullets of sweat that is dripping from her forehead,  I don’t want to say that she looks guilty but by the way she’s acting, it’s like she was the one responsible for Princess Sofia's sudden lost.

“I don’t want to answer that, that’s confidential.” The redhead was about to ask again when Princess Ardana had an outburst.

“My mother said it’s confidential!” Ardana screamed at him, everyone stared at Ardana confused about her outburst; it’s not so regal for a princess to act like that.

I started laughing, and my guffaw resounded the whole covered court. The eyes are on me now, and I slumped at my seat feeling mortified, if only there is a portal below I could just try to squeeze myself under to avoid the death glares I’m getting from everyone.

“Is something funny?” Princess Reagan questioned me, I stood up and I want to knock myself out. Why did I stand up?

“Uhh, n-no I j-ust s-aw s-omething.” I started stuttering; I can feel my sweat drowning me. When I turned to look at Ardana, I saw the Queen at her side beaming at me; I would like to raise an eyebrow at her to ask her why is she smiling?

“Next time, keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say, or if there’s nothing funny happe…” Before Princess Reagan could finish her mean remark at me, the Queen cut her off.

“Leave the kid alone Reagan, her nature is being bubbly, you shouldn’t give your anger at her, show some breeding, you’re a princess!” People around me smiled at the Queen, Princess Reagan was known to be a terror and it’s pretty amusing that the Queen just snapped at her.

“I-I’m sorry your highness.” It’s now her turn to stutter. I laughed silently in my head thankful of what the Queen had done to her. I turned my attention at the Queen again.

“Sit my dear, I’m sorry for what my niece told you.”

I kneeled and said. “Thank you your highness.” I regain my composure and sat again, Martha is beside me feeling giddily and hyperactive.

“That is so cool! You just had a conversation with the queen!” I smiled at Martha by what she said.

“She just told me to sit down, that isn’t really passable for a conversation.”

“So? It’s still so cool!”

“Let’s meet up tomorrow.” I told her, I don’t know what’s in me. But with the Queen’s kindness towards me, I feel obligated to find her daughter and her lost grand daughter.

“Why?” She asked while Ms. Hendrick’s voice could be heard, she is now telling us the schedule for today but Martha and I just ignored her.

“To find out about the things we heard, at the lab you know.” I tried to lower my voice so no one could hear us.

“Oh yeah! That would be great! Okay then, meet me at my house.” She began pulling out her notebook and pen that is inside her pocket. I wonder; how can her notebook fit in her pocket? But that is really irrelevant and not important right now.

She handed me a piece of paper with her address on it. “Meet me at my house after dinner okay?” I nodded at her and I feel happy about what we are trying to find out about the royal family.
