The Hidden Heiress [4]

I sat silently at the detention room writing the sentence: I’M NEVER GONNA BE LATE AGAIN, at the sheet of paper one hundred times, I looked up when I saw the door open. It was the guy from gym class; I think his name is Sean. He looked at me then smiled. His teeth are so white; he looks like a model from a toothpaste commercial.

“Glad to see you here.” Well that was an awkward approach.

“I hope I can say the same.” I went back to writing down the sentence, my hand is worn out from exhaustion I can see the veins popping out.

“You want me to continue writing for you?” I chuckled at his question. He barely even started and he wants to help me? Who is he flash?

“Don’t be a funny man Mr. you haven’t even started.” I pointed at his blank desk.

“Oh, it’s okay really. I am good at this type of things, let me do that for you.” He grabbed my paper away and I let him write for me. It won’t be my fault if he faint there because he had too much work and besides I’m already halfway through my paper, he just have to right 50 more, plus his given sentence, 150, no biggie.

He starts to right down very quick, that if I blink per second he already finished a sentence. Eight minutes passed by and he filled the sheet of paper, back to back with the ‘I’M NEVER GONNA BE LATE AGAIN’ sentence. I think he overdid it, when he returned the paper. I counted the sentence and there are 32 excess sentences.

“I’m impressed, you wrote eighty two instead of only completing it with fifty, thanks.” I gave him a toothy grin, but he is now busy writing down his own.

“The more the many-ere.” He simply said and with ten more minutes he’s already done with his.

“You’re fast aren’t you? Are you a journalist? Secretly prying on the princess?”  He actually looked shocked by my question.

“Uh, N-n-nooo, do you know where the princess is?” He stuttered at first but then bullets of sweat are dripping from his forehead.

“Of course! Princess Ardana might be home now.” He started shaking his head.

“Not her! Oh, nevermind.” I just stared at him baffled, what does he mean not Princess Ardana? Is there another Princess? I hope she’s nicer than Ardana.

“So, there’s another princess?” I asked. He just waved off his hand trying to dismiss the topic.

“Answer me, is there another princess at our city right now?” I moved closer to him, making him more nervous.

“I’ll tell you if you won’t tell anyone else.” I nodded and I let him continue, but when he opened his mouth, we saw the guidance coordinator, Mrs. John.

“Please pass the sheets forward.” I grumbled and passed my paper forward. What a great timing Mrs. John.

“You two may be dismissed.”  I stood up from my seat and gathered all my things.

“Goodbye.” I said.

“Bye Hannah.”

“How was school sweetie?”  Dad asked while stuffing his mouth with spaghetti.

“I got detention.”  I avoided his hot gaze towards me; I know that he might be fuming with anger. I never got detention ever, this is my first one and I hope it would be my last.

My hands were getting ready to cover up my ears when he shouts at me but all I hear from him is a calm voice. “Well, why did you got a detention?"

“You're not mad at me?” I raised my fork and pointed it at him. I have never seen my dad so calm.

“Do you want me to be?” I quickly shook my head. “Why did you get detention Hannah?”  I tried to open my mouth but nothing is coming out.

“I was late for gym class.” I told him, my voice barely audible.

“You haven’t been late before, what happened?” He caught me looking at his eyes, there’s no turning back now, I have to look at him straight in those piercing dark blue eyes of his.

“I just, I… Dad, I think princess Ardana hates me.” He suddenly turned red with anger. Is my dad bipolar?

“What did I tell you? Stay away from her!” He bellowed angrily, slamming his hands on the table, the water spilled and our spaghetti dinner is soaked with it.

“’I’m sorry dad, I didn’t mean to be near her! We have the same schedule! She’s in all of my class!” Tears are welling in my eyes, I’m so mad at him for being mad at me. I don’t want to be shouted, I don’t want to be such a burden to him.

“That’s not an excuse!” Dad roared with so much anger I can’t take it anymore. I dashed towards my room shutting the door with so much force, my wooden door actually had a crack at the bottom, but it’s so small you can hardly see it from afar.

I opened the window; my vision is a bit blurry because of the tears that are dripping heavily from my eyes. I went out of the window; I tried to climb down using the vein that is ascending from the side of the house, I saw Dad’s room light is turned on, he might also skipped dinner after our ‘little argument’.

“It’s you!” The voice made me lost my balance and I fell hard on my back at the damp, dirty soil of our garden.

When I regained consciousness, I slowly opened my eyes and saw a boy kneeling over me trying to wake me up, his hair is dark and long that looks sexy on him, the color of his lips is like the color of a red rose. it’s so red.

“Sean?” I croaked out, he rubbed my back trying to help me get up.

“It’s me, we’re neighbors!” His voice is so bubbly I told him to keep quiet or my dad will find out that I sneaked out.

“Well that’s a coincidence, can you help me find a seat please?” My back is killing me; the impact is so hard that I need to lay down on something soft.  We walked towards the front porch of his house and sat there.

“Thanks and no thanks.”

“I understand the thank you thing and you’re welcome but the no thanks?” He looked like he wasn’t the one responsible for me falling from the ladder vein.

“If you didn’t shout, I might not lose my balance.” I shot him a look.

“Oh, I’m so sorry I hope we won’t be enemies.” Enemies? What is he? 9? “I was just a bit shocked that you were my neighbor and became really excited that I have a neighbor from school.”

“You’re weird, you know that?”

“I have been always weird and I would never change for anyone.” He started grinning and I can’t help but also smile at him.

“Uhm, about the other prince…” Before I could even finish my sentence, a strikingly beautiful woman in her early forties came out of Sean’s house.

“Hi there, who is this girl Sean?” The woman asked pointing at me.

“I’m Hannah, and you are Sean’s mom?” she nodded then began speaking.

“You two should sleep now, you have school tomorrow.” Her voice is saintly, it made Sean and I obey her.

“Goodnight.” I told them and waved off towards my house. I climbed the thick vein, and up and up I went. I paused when I was near my room, I thought I heard something but I may have mistaken it for the hooting of the owls, I slipped inside my room and turned off the light hoping for a better tomorrow.
