"Where are you going, Hikaru?" Karou asked his brother next to him. Looking out the tall windows in the music room, the ginger-haired second-year stared at the clear blue sky and blossoming cherry trees. Winter break had ended a couple of months ago. The snow had melted, and spring is barely waking up.

The brother smiled at him reassuringly. "Look, I just thought that we should start thinking about us as individuals rather than as the Twins. Eventually, we're going to have to be separate," Hikaru placed his hands on his twin's shoulders so he could look him in the eyes. "We'll still be together during the Host Club, but I want to try being on my own after classes. You know, try coming to an understanding with what makes me who I am and us different from each other."

An understanding of what makes us different. . . Karou gave him a small smile. "I understand. You go have a good time." I can't say that I was ready for this, or that I didn't see it coming. Is this similar to being dumped?

"Thanks. I'll see you later, then." Hikaru hugged his brother, then left the music room.

Once alone, Karou slowly gathered his things and took his leave, thinking about what Hikaru said. Yeah, we're different. But we're still identical twins. We've been taking advantage of our similarities since we were kids. I always knew that he'll one day want to be on his own, but I still wasn't prepared for it. I didn't think I'd ever be ready for it, but I hope I handled that well. . .

The boy thought aloud, "An understanding of what makes twins alike, and what makes twins individual. Where did I hear something like that before?"
