"Do I what?"
"You know."
"I. . ." Karou scratched the back of his head, thinking. He always enjoyed being with her, and she makes him happy. She knows him almost as well as his brother does. Not to mention she's the first who's been able to know him for who he was, rather than being the 'not Hikaru' twin. Jenna makes him feel special. "I think I do." He finally muttered softly.
"Then go get her! Don't waste the opportunity!" Hikaru gave his twin's back an encouraging shove, causing the young man to stumble through the doors.
Once he regained his balance, Karou saw a girl dressed in red and white running down the hall. "Jenna!" he shouted, but she didn't even look back as she turned the corner.
"I'm sorry. It's my fault," Emma said, standing beside him. "I shouldn't have made such a scene. Now you two are embarrassed, and who knows what will happen after today."
Karou turned to the young woman, eyebrow raised quizzically. "You don't seem sorry. Did you plan this, or at least anticipate it?"
She shrugged nonchalantly. "Perhaps. But can you blame me for being curious? Jenna is my twin, my one and only sister. I'm sure you can understand how much I care and worry about her."
He nodded, understanding her concern perfectly. She's right. If the roles were switched, he'd do just about anything for Hikaru. "You still didn't answer my question, Hitachiin," The girl stepped in front of him. She flipped her short hair, then placed her hands on her hips and serious turquoise eyes stared into his soul. "Are you in love with my sister?"
"Yes."
Before he knew it, Karou answered without hesitation. A warm blush rose in his cheeks as Emma stared at him for a long minute. Finally, she spoke while stuffing her wig into her school bag. "Then let it be known, if you hurt her in any manner, I will personal make you pay."
The young man gave a courteous nod. "I would expect you to. But I assure you, I'll do everything I can to not give you a reason to be worried about her."
"Sounds good." She turned on her heel and began walking down the hall. The skirts of her yellow dress billowed gracefully around her legs.
"Hey, Davidson!" he suddenly called out. She stopped and turned back to him. His heart pounded nervously as he hesitated, then finally asked the question that has continuously swirled in his mind for quite some time now. "Do you know if Jenna feels the same way?"
Emma smiled softly. "I cannot confirm or deny it because she has every right to give you the answer herself, so long as you ask." She paused, thinking for a moment before continuing. "I should warn you, though, she might try to avoid you for at least a day out of embarrassment from today. But I'll tell you what, I'll talk to her and try clean up my mess. I give no promises as to whether things will return to normal."
Hitachiin nodded and shoved his hands into his pockets. "Thanks. I appreciate it." She only took a couple of steps before he called out once more. "One last thing. That day in middle school-- who wrote the letter to me, and which of you was who?"
The girl smiled as she answered. "Jenna wrote it, and she was the one you approached when pretending to be Hikaru. Anything else you'd like to know?"
"Nope. That's all for now. Thank you."
As she left the same way her twin went, a stone sank into his stomach and his heart raced anxiously. He spent the rest of the afternoon anticipating his next encounter with Jenna, finding it nearly impossible to think about anything or anyone else.
