"Sister, we're home." Gabrielle chimed, as we pulled up to the gates of her community. The land in front of us was filled with large houses, that belonged to the most priveleged. Of course, nobody famous lives in Gabrielle's community, bit they all have some kind of big-bucks job. The house that Gabrielle lives in was a gift to her mom, who's an actress. At first sight it may seem overwhelming, but after being here enough times, it's home.
The gate keeper stepped out of the tiny both in which he was standing, and Gabrielle's mouth pulled into a grin. "Hi, Josh!" she said, in a chirpy voice.
Josh was and had always been the gate keeper at the community. The boy was nineteen and spent most of his time in the booth. That is, unless Gabrielle and I returned to visit.
Josh gave the both of us a salute. "Great to see you home." he said. "Missed you, Em."
I smiled, without thinking. The gate keeper had been like a big brother to me, since I'd first come here. He was the one to take me on walks, keep me company while Gabrielle was with her other friends, and we once made up a prank so great, we aren't allowed to talk about it. As the car pulled forward and we approached the home, I couldn't help but hold my breath. This house so farmiliar, with it's large windows and the stone path that led up to it's entrance. When we rolled into the circular driveway, Gabrielle looked to me. "Winter break, here we-"
"Girls!"
Gabrielle's mom came running out the front door, towards our car. She didn't look much different; she had the same dark, thin hair and healthy figure. Her voice was the default voice for a mom, just a few octaves up, and her smile was the same one that made me feel at home the most.
"Come, come in!" she insisted, grabbing my hand. I followed her towards the front door, which was already all the way open. From a few feet away, I couldn't see much, but upon entering, the scent of Gabrielle's abode , filled my nose. The first couple of rooms are common rooms, AKA the family room, living room, and the two different media rooms. We continued through the house, eventually reaching the kitchen, where sliding glass doors led to the outdoor area. I kicked off the flip flops that I was wearing, as the three of us went to the place I'd been so many times before. Near the pool, was a lounge area with different sized couches, TVs, and a buffet. The buffet was courtesy of Gabrielle's mom, who'd always made sure to set out our favorite food on homecoming days. I took a spot on a cream coloured velvet couch, across from the lounge that Gab usually sits in. Her mom took the remaining chair.
"So girls," she said, "how's everything been?"
I grabbed a skewer of strawberries and dipped them in the chocolate, while Gabrielle filled her mom in about how well we've both been doing in school.
Her mom looked pleased. "How wonderful. But it's just so sad that you girls aren't roommates! I miss the days when you'd prank each other and Gabbie would call to tell me how much she hated you. I guess single's good, though."
"Emery has a roommate."
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah, but she's not too bad. I mean, Jessa's pretty cool and she helps me with studying a lot-"
There was a skittering sound from the kitchen, and Josh emerged from it. He jogged toward our hut. "I'm on the community news!" he said. "Turn to channel 6."
Gabrielle picked up the remote and we crained our heads to the TV, posted on the wall. Low and behold, Josh was standing in front of the gate.
"Security's doing very well here at Kingsford Community. We've had no frauds or attempted break-ins, for the longest time. I'm also excited to announce that the princesses of Kingsford are back for three weeks. Yes, that's right, Gabrielle Rockbilte and Emerson Williams are back! Stop by the Rockbilte's and say hi. I'll be taking the weeks off for my break, but never fear: my backup, Jared, is glad to be taking over. Until next year, have a safe and happy holiday! I'm Josh Montrose, signing off."
