Walking down the hall to the office where we collect our assignments and all we can hear are our footsteps in the dark corridor. Dim lights are on every second column and don’t provide much light the walls look like a silverfish grey but it’s hard to tell in this light. We come to a big wooden door at the very end of the hallway and knock. The door open and we step through.
Standing before the big desk is a boy with fine blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He is taller than Nathan about the same size as me, he is also quite thin. Just then I got a shrill of excitement, “It’s a new person!” This is so exciting we never get to meet anyone and he even looks our age or maybe slightly older! I look over at Nathan, I can’t tell what he is feeling because ours don’t match up.
“Come in” says a low voice.
A tall, bald man wearing a black suit stands up behind the long desk. He is the head of the department that deals with the assignments within the organisation.
“Hello sir, Ms Ren told us that you had a new assignment for us.”
“Yes, this is Justin, He will be joining your team when you go on assignments, and do your daily rounds.”
“But we don’t have a team.” Nathan replies.
“You do now, that’s all for now thankyou Justin.” Justin lokks at us then walks out of the room and disappears into the gloom of the corridor. We turn our attention back to the man behind the desk.
“Does he know anything? About us, or our situation?” I ask with the sound of panic hiding within some of the words.
“Not exactly. He doesn’t know what you are, all he knows is that you have special abilities that are not human.”
“Why our ‘Team’?”
“It is the next part of your training. You need to learn to interact properly with others within the organisation whether they know or not. If you want to go on harder assignments in the future you will be in a team working with other people you will not know and this will create the perfect practise. He is new and just transferred from Brazil so he doesn’t know anything or heard anything yet. Do you understand?”
“Yes Sir.” I rely. Then I nudge Nathan, waiting or his reply.
“Yes…Sir” he says reluctantly. And that’s it, we have another person on our ‘team’.
