' Some nightmares are actually memories your brain remembers and plays while you sleep but in a more macabre or disturbing way.'
The doors at the end of the hallway fling open and three doctors wearing blood covered lab coats, white masks, and gloves barge in and rush toward Oliver and Alex and grab at them with claw like fingers caked in blood and filth. Oliver and Alex try their best to fight back from the doctors' bony arms, but it is no use. Once they are restrained, the doctors drag them further down the hallway and through a new set of double doors that are splattered crimson. The whole time that this is happening, Carlos, the schizophrenic, follows after them giggling maniacally.
The doctors drag them into a white room with two hospital beds in the middle. Beside the beds is a metal table with various types of equipment on it like scalpels and tweezers. On the walls are shelves cluttered full of jars with body parts with eyes, brains, and other small organs floating inside the dirty green liquid. The doctors shove them each onto a bed and strap down their arms and legs with leather straps. On the ceiling is a huge exam light that shines brightly into their eyes. Alex kicks and writhes in the bed, trying desperately to escape. Beside her, Oliver looks around, searching for a way to escape as well.
The doctors scramble around, sorting out more equipment onto the metal table including a scalpel and needles. They shuffle through white cabinets on the walls and bring out white rags and towels. One doctor brings in a tank of Nitrous Oxide, a.k.a Happy Gas, and begins to prep it in a corner of the room. Oliver's eyes widen and he begins to struggle more to escape. He looks over at the metal table beside him and focuses on a shiny metal scalpel. He does his best to reach for it and the tips of his fingers brush across it just enough to scoot it closer to him to where he can pick it up. Once he has the scalpel in his hand, he begins to saw at the leather strap around his left wrist. The leather is extremely difficult to cut through, but soon enough his left hand is freed and he begins to saw at the strap around his right wrist. While this is happening, the doctors are still distracted in the corner setting up the Nitrous Oxide. Oliver then unstraps his ankles and starts to free Alex from her straps. He can only get through one of her straps when Alex's eyes widen and she screams, "Watch Out!"
Oliver turns just in time to dodge a doctor who is barreling toward him. He quickly raises the scalpel to protect himself and manages to plunge it deep into the doctor's throat. The doctor wheezes for awhile, struggling to breathe as blood gurgles from his mouth and out of the wound. His body soon falls limp. This attracts the other two doctors' attention and they charge at him as well. Oliver clutches the scalpel and thrusts it at them, making them back away. Alex finishes freeing herself and manages to find a sharp set of pliers. She grabs them and helps Oliver take down the other two doctors by tripping them and slitting their throats as well, leaving a bloody mess and three lifeless bodies behind. Oliver and Alex are soon covered in blood. During the struggle, Carlos the schizophrenic laughs and giggles as he watches the massacre.
When the chaos with the doctors subsides, Oliver and Alex turn to Carlos who is continuing to laugh like a madman.
"Do you know a way out of this place?" Alex asks him.
Carlos stops giggling and stares the two of them down. "There is no way out of this place." He replies with a sudden serious voice. "They don't want you to leave."
"Who the hell is 'they'?!" Oliver asks, getting irritated.
Carlos grins and tilts his head as if to listen. He murmurs something lowly and looks back up to Oliver and Alex. "They are the demons that live here. Only I can see them." He replies.
"What do they look like?" Alex asks.
"I cannot tell you." Carlos replies. He goes quiet again and stares off into space for a moment, then regains his focus. "They want you to stay here...they...they say that you belong with us. Especially her." He points a bony finger toward Alex. "Your friend here is special..."
Oliver narrows his eyes. "How so?" He asks.
"Insomnia." Carlos says. "And anxiety... the perfect pair of internal demons for sleep paralysis."
Alex gulps and looks over to Oliver with a worried expression.
"You need to come with me." Carlos states and walks over to them, grabbing onto their arms and leading them down another hallway.
"Where are we going?!" Alex yells, trying to break free from the schizophrenic's iron grip.
"Just shut up and listen to me." Carlos says and stops in front of a new iron door. He turns the knob and opens it, revealing a padded cell. "They want you to stay in here for awhile." Carlos murmurs while pushing them inside. "Do not try to escape. You will be sorry." After his words, Carlos closes the door and locks it behind him leaving Oliver and Alex alone in the padded room.
"What are we going to do now?" Alex asks. She feels as if the small padded room is closing in on her, causing a small sense of claustrophobia.
"We need to get out of here. Was this in any of your dreams?" Oliver replies.
"It doesn't look familiar." Alex replies.
Oliver walks up to the metal door concealing them inside the padded room and bangs on it with his fists. He yells and screams for Carlos to come back, but no one ever does. He then turns back to Alex and sighs in frustration. Alex stands there helplessly, taking in the words that Carlos had said about her.
'Insomnia...and anxiety. The perfect pair of internal demons...'
"What does that mean?" She murmurs to herself.
Oliver stares at her. " I'm not sure what it means, but it can't be good. We have to get out of here. If we're in here any longer we'll go insane just like everyone else." He replies.
"Do you think Carlos will come back for us?" She asks.
"I doubt it. He's probably left us for dead." Oliver replies.
"I think I have an idea of how we can get out of here." Alex states. "Did you see what kind of lock was on the door?"
"It was a key." Oliver replies. "Why?"
Alex puts a hand in her hair and brings back a silver bobby pin. "I think I can unlock it with this."
She walks over to the door and kneels down in front of it. She bends the bobby pin and sticks it inside the lock of the door and twists it around for awhile. Finally, there is a click and the door creaks open."Awesome! Good job." Oliver says as Alex stands up. " Now let's find a way out of here."
to be continued....
