The light bounces off the walls and reflects off of windows to other rooms as they walk along.
Their footsteps echo eerily off of the cement floors."Why don't we go in here?" Oliver asks, pointing to a door that is half open. "It looks like a lab or testing area."
Alex peers through the doorway to see file cabinets, tables, lab equipment, hazardous radioactive barrels, tools, and other interesting things scattered around the huge room.
"I guess it's worth a shot." She replies. They enter the room and begin to search it. They look inside cabinets and desk drawers, they search the shelving, but still can't find any piece of information at all.
"This is pointless." Alex says with frustration. "I don't think we're ever gonna find anything."
"At least we checked the place out." Oliver replies.
Suddenly, there is a long scratching sound in the hallway. Oliver and alex freeze and listen closely to the strange noise, until it suddenly stops.
"What the Hell was that?!" Alex asks, moving closer to Oliver."I'm not sure. Here, take your knife just to be sure. We need to be prepared this time." He replies, handing alex the knife.
They slowly begin to inch themselves to the doorway and peer into the dark hallway. There is a man standing there with his head tilted to the side, unmoving.
Oliver and alex exchange glances."H-hello?" Oliver calls to the man.
The man doesn't move an inch."Hello?" Oliver calls more confidently. "We're trying to find a way back home. Could you help us?" He squeezes the knife in his hand, ready to strike.
The strange man slowly turns around. His face is covered by a gas mask and he is dressed in old hazmat clothing. Not saying anything, he just stares at them.
Finally, there are words.
"Home?" It echos throughout the hallway. It is a gentle, calming voice. The man sighs sadly. "I wish I could go home..."Oliver and alex stay silent, and the man twitches, causing his neck to crack.
"Where is your home? Why are you trying to find it?" The man asks."W-we didn't mean to come here, wherever this place is. It was all a misunderstanding." Alex says back to the man.
The man takes a calm step toward them. "Go back to where you first came. There, will lay your answer." He slowly reaches to his left side and brings out a slightly bigger pocket knife.
Oliver tenses up and Alex moves behind him in fear.
The gas mask man chuckles and puts the knife away, turns around on his heel, and continues to walk down the hallway in jerky, unnatural movements.
They watch after him until he disappears into the darkness.
"So, we should have just stayed at my house then." Oliver says, relaxing his muscles. He sighs with aggravation.
"How do you know we can trust that guy?" Alex asks with a shaky voice.
Oliver shrugs his shoulders. "It's the best clue we have so far so it's worth a shot. Let's go back to my house and try to find those damned boxes."
The two of them cautiously step out from the room and make their way down the dark hallway as well.
They soon exit the power plant and head back up the cracked road, splashing through puddles to Oliver's house in the sprinkling rain. They approach the front door and Oliver sucks in a deep breath and opens the door to his house once again, letting them inside.
