I was waiting in reception when a rep. from 'Gardening Weekly' rushed in requesting a photographer

"I'm sorry sir; I don't think there are any available photographers right now"

He walked out looking stressed. I felt bad for him.

"Excuse me sir, I might have a photographer for you" I called.

He stopped dead in his tracks "really?"

"She's in an interview right now but she needs work"

I showed him Skye's online portfolio, he liked them so much and I could tell.

"She's perfect!" he exclaimed "can she start tomorrow?"

"I don't know, you will have to ask her interviewer in case she got the job"

I saw the interviewer emerge from the room to talk to the reception woman and I pointed her out to the rep. I really hoped she was doing ok in there, I know how nervous she can get in these types of situations.

20 minutes passed before Skye came out of the room and she has a huge smile on her face. She runs up and hugs me tight.

"Thank you, thank you you're the best boyfriend I could ever ask for" she said

"I knew you would need the work. And he seemed pretty desperate for someone"

We both laughed and I told her the rest of the story on the way home. I'm so happy for her it's unreal. Yes, she may of not got the original job that she wanted but this job is still good for her and we need the money asap so we can get a place of our own.

When we got back into the flat Aunt Karrie had set up dinner for us. It was only a piece of dry chicken with some sloppy mashed potatoes and scattered veg.

"I'm sorry I'm not the best cook, but I thought we could all eat together" she gave us a hopeful smile and gestured us to sit down

"Mmm this smells amazing" Skye said, not wanting to hurt her feelings

"I agree I'm sure it tastes just as good as well" I joined in too, after all she was giving us a place to stay.

Aunt Karrie beamed at us as she sat down to eat. It wasn't a very nice meal but it filled us up.

This is the first time I got a proper look at the apartment. I was a bit run-down and most of the furniture looked battered and faded. The wallpaper was peeling in the corners and every so often the light flickered. Is this really what Aunt Karrie's been living in for the past year?

I'm pretty sure she's used to it now but even our house is better than this apartment. My family had been poor for years but we always managed to scrape what we had together to stay in our house. In the house there was around 9 of us living in a 3 bedroom house. My mum, me, my 2 brothers (Owen and Ross) and my 5 cousins, Amelia, Emily, Toby, Cassy and Eve. The house was always full and most of us had to sleep on bunk beds. While I was in Pennsylvania (my home town) I had to work 2 part-time jobs because I was the eldest. I kind of feel bad that I had to leave them, but I'm 18 now and I've got to support my new family.

After the meal I decided to go to sleep, I feel like I need to get some work done tomorrow. I've helped Skye launch her career, now I've got to launch mine. I go into my bedroom and plug in my laptop and change into and old shirt and joggers.

Damn, I didn't realise I was so tired till now.it felt good to flop on the (quite lumpy) bed and just let my dreams take me away. I didn't even realise when Skye came in to go to sleep.

I hope I'm awake before her tomorrow because I really want to wish her good luck before she went. I know how nervous she'll be before this and its always been my job to calm her nerves, I did back in Pennsylvania.

God I miss that place, however bad my family issues were we all still came together. But I've got to focus now the now. Skye and I are forever and nobody can change that, not even her parents. They have tried.

Sleep blocked out all of my worries or thoughts tonight. It let me sleep the niht, just for once.

Here goes my first night in New York...
