Chapter Five

Roxalie’s POV

“I’m so hungry!” Rae moaned, clutching her stomach and bending over dramatically as we entered the dining room. Keandra and I laughed. “Hold on, you'll get food soon.” I say, smiling. “Hey! Roxy! Keandra! Rae!” A voice called out. We turned around to find Jerome and Octavia, with two girls and two guys. We stopped walking to wait for them to catch up. “Hey guys. And hello, I don’t think I’ve seen you guys before.” Rae turned to face the two girls and the guy. The girls grinned shyly, before introducing themselves. "Hi, I'm Ashleigh." The girl with the chocolate brown hair and sweet smile said. "And I'm Georgianne.” The other girl with the auburn hair and bright green eyes said. The other guy stayed silent, staying at the back of the group. The guy with bright blue, and I think I saw neon green highlights) hair and hazel eyes nudged him. “And um, He’s Nathaniel. Nathniel’s a little quiet, and even when, if, he speaks he’s a little, um, rough. Nate can you at least say hi?” Octavia said a little pleadingly. “Hey.” Nathaniel said softly, his voice deep and dangerous, sending shivers down my spine. The other guy smiled at us mischievously. “And I’m Jase.” The guy with the bright blue hair said.

Nathaniel had black hair with golden highlights falling messily around his face, multiple earrings on his ears, dark skin, and intense black eyes that were currently staring into mine. Ignoring the sudden uncomfortable feeling, I smiled and without breaking off eye contact with Nathaniel, introduced us. “I’m Roxy, and this is Rae, and Keandra.” They both said hi. We decided to sit at one of the bigger tables, which happened to be near the wall, far from the Priviledge table. Nathaniel stared at the guys at the priviledge  table emotionlessly as we ate, leaving his food untouched. Looking at the priviledge table, I noticed that Raphael was staring back at Nathaniel coldly. I heard something crack and looked down. My eyes widened. There was a crack on yhe wooden table running out from under Nathaniel's hand that was gripping the table, knuckles white. I quickly put down the drink I was about to drink and leaned towards him. "Hey, wanna walk me back to the dorm, I'm done eating." I whispered to him, slowly prying his fingers of the table one by one. He looked towards my hand on his, then at me, shock filled his eyes. He hesitated for a moment, then nodded. I grabbed my things quickly. "Hey guys we're just gonna head back to the dorm first kay?" Not waiting for their reply I grabbed Nathaniel's hand and dragged him out of the dining room.

When we were out of the building I let go of his hand, and sighed. "I'm sure your gang leader wouldn't want you to start a fight in school." I said. Nathaniel's eyes filled with shock and confusion. I grabbed his left hand, pushing up his jacket sleeve to his elbow, revealing the Phoenix tattoo on his forearm that I had caught a glimpse of when I pried his fingers off the table. It was Cain's mark, the same one that I had on the inside of my wrist. "Just like I thought." I looked up at Nathaniel, smiling slightly. "You spoke of Cain like you know him." Nathaniel said. "Cain? Who's that? I was only assuming your leader wouldn't like you causing trouble in school." I said, pretending not to know who he was talking about. I could see the doubt in his eyes. "What does an innocent girl like you know about gangs?" He said softly, picking a lock of my hair before letting it fall back onto my shoulder. Although I would be seeing a lot of Nathaniel in the future I didn't want him to know that I was Cain's sister yet; he might tell Cain and the surprise would be ruined. "Maybe something, maybe nothing." I replied, not giving him a straight answer. "Could you do me a favor and not tell this Cain person about me?" I ask, not looking at him as we got nearer to the dorm. "You have something to hide, Roxy?" Was his quiet reply. "You'll see soon enough." I told him. He was silent for a moment. "I will not tell him if that is what you want." He said. "Thank you." I said, turning to smile at him as sweetly as I could before bounding up the steps of the dorm and quickly swiping the card before going into the dorm, leaving him staring at me silently from the stairs of the guys dorm.
