Chapter Eight

Roxy’s POV

I grinned happily as I skipped my way back to the dorm Sunday afternoon. It was a really good day yesterday, and I had an amazing time getting back together with Cain and the gang. It was funny seeing their reactions to having a girl in one of the top gangs here, and they automatically underestimated me. But I just couldn’t resist kicking all their butts and boasting a bit. Cain obviously was really proud, judging from his big grin. His little sister managed to beat almost the whole gang, and one of the strongest in that area.

I saw all my friends sitting on the garden benches, and they all jumped up as soon as they saw me. “Roxy! Where were you?” Rae hugged me when I reached them. I smiled and hugged her back. “I already told you guys, I went to visit someone. You don’t have to sound so worried!” Kaera raised an eyebrow. “And who is this ‘someone’?” I didn’t reply, hugging her instead. I didn’t want to tell them I went to visit Cain, it was too dangerous. “Is Nathaniel back yet?” I asked. Kaera raised her eyebrows at me, clearly telling me she noticed my bad change of subject. “No, he’s not back yet. He’s been like this since we knew him when we first started school, disappearing then suddenly he’s back like he never left.” Jase said shrugging it off. “Just like how somebody disappeared over the weekend.” I heard Rae mutter under her breath. I frowned slightly. Kaera and Rae were both unusually observant, and since we would be living in the same suite as them it might be hard to sneak out. Maybe I should talk to Cain about this- “Hello! Earth to Roxy!” I blinked to see everyone staring at me. “Are you okay?” Ashleigh asked. “Er yeah, sorry, I was just spacing out.” I shot her a smile. “Um, I think I’ll go back to our dorm now. Sorry, I’m kind of tired.” They looked disappointed but nodded. Rae and Kaera linked arms with me surprisingly, and we waved bye to the rest before walking into the building.

I scanned my card, and the lift doors opened. We entered it and Rae pressed the Privilege Floor button, and the lift shot up. I sighed, leaned against the lift walls, and braced myself. 1, 2, 3- “Okay, you are so telling us where you went!” Kaera pounced on me, and Rae agreed, nodding her head. “Yup, you didn’t tell us that you were going, so you’re gonna have to explain now!” I groaned, closing my eyes. “Do I have to? It’s nothing worth getting a fuss over, really!” I scowled mockingly at Kaera, who nudged my side. “Of course it is. Who’s the mysterious guy?” Rae wagged her eyebrows, and she and Kaera burst into a fit of laughter. I joined them, but rolled my eyes. “Oh fine, it’s a guy-” They squealed, immediately grinning from ear to ear. “But it’s my brother. I’m not really seeing anyone right now!” Their faces dropped. But then, Kaera grinned. “How does your brother look like?” I gave her a shocked look, and she started laughing. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding!” Rae butted in, “You only have eyes for Viktor!” I high-fived her, and we burst out laughing, while Kaera turned red. “Whatever.” She huffed and turned away, trying to ignore our teasing.

The lift came to a stop, and we walked out, still giggling about Kaera’s reaction. Our other, um, ‘friends’, weren’t here, so we decided to go play in the Entertainment Room. In the end, we all decided to play Kinect Dance Central 2. We took turns competing against each other and choosing the songs. After a while, we decided to take a break and I sipped on the Mountain Dew Rae had passed me from the mini-fridge.

“That was exhausting. Can we please not play ‘Hard’ anymore?” Kaera whined, and Rae giggled. “That’s only because you suck at it!” I laughed, and Kaera glared at us. “Just because you guys played before doesn’t mean you guys are better than me. Just wait until I become an expert.” She held her head high, and I raised an eyebrow and leaned over to Rae. “If she becomes an expert.” I whispered loudly so that Kaera could hear, and we both burst out laughing while Kaera just scowled. But in the end, she was grinning as well. “Want to continue now?” Rae offered, and I grinned while Kaera groaned. “Do we have to?” But she got up all the same.

It was now me against Rae, and we chose Toxic by Britney Spears. We grinned at each other competitively as the song started, and Kaera kept trying to make us laugh while she stood at the side, making funny faces. I started loosening up as the song began to play.

Baby can’t you see, I’m callin’

A guy like you should wear warmin’

It’s dangerous

I’m fallin’

We followed the girls dancing on the screen, and Kaera whooped as we did it perfectly. So far we were both neck to neck in our scores, and our competitive sides were emerging. We put in more effort in the moves and added more ‘sexy’. The chorus started to play, and Kaera sang along while we danced.

With the taste on your lips, I’m on a ride

You’re toxic, I’m slippin’ under

With a taste of a poison paradise

I’m addicted to you, don’t you know that you’re toxic?

We were so caught up in the game, we didn’t even notice the door opening and shutting quietly. Rae was ahead now, and I focused on the screen. It was already coming to the end, and Rae was still ahead. It was the part where both of us were dancing the moves shown on screen as fast as we could, where there were special moves that could give us more points. Rae was too preoccupied with one of the moves which she couldn’t seem to score, and I managed to score the golden move and the song ended with the finishing move.

All of us held our breath as our scores were calculated. In the end, I won by a just 500 points (NOTE: it’s considered really little) and I pumped my fist in victory. Rae grinned at me, as I did a victory dance which consisted of a lot of butt shaking and hip swaying. They both burst out laughing at my dance, and we all ended up collapsing on the floor from laughter.

Clap, clap, clap. We heard the faint sounds of hands clapping together from the back, and I whirled around, my eyes narrowing. Rae and Kaera stood behind me, curiously glancing at the area where the sound came from.

“That was real cute, if I do say so myself.” Hunter smirked, as the whole gang of them emerged from the dark corner, in their shirtless glory and extremely low-slung jeans. I fought to keep my eyes from roaming downwards Alexander’s figure, instead focusing on the wall behind him. I could hear Rae and Kristen shifting uncomfortably behind me. By now, they were standing directly in front of us.

“Glad we amused you.” I replied, focusing on Hunter’s smirking face. Kaera crossed her arms over her chest, while Rae just cocked her head to the side. Viktor chuckled. “It was very entertaining.” He glanced at Kaera, who looked away, her face turning pink. Suddenly feeling like I was being watched, my eyes wandered toward Alexander, who was staring at me intensely. When I met his gaze, his eyes scanned my figure from head to toe openly, and to my horror, I felt blood rushing up to my cheeks, and immediately looked away. I could almost hear him smirking. “How long were you guys watching?” Rae asked cautiously, and the whole gang of them shared sly looks. Alexander pushed himself off the wall, and took long, confident strides towards us. The atmosphere was so tense, you could cut it with a saw. He stood in front of the whole lot of them, facing me. I refused to give in and just stood there, not looking up to see his face, turning the other way. He walked around me, so that my back was to his chest. “Since the start.” He said, and I wanted to shiver when I felt his breath on my neck. He bent down slightly, so that he could whisper in my ear. I held my breath as I waited for him to say something.

Everyone was looking at us, almost waiting for something to happen. My fists were clenched at my sides, and I forced myself to stay still and not turn around. His breath fanned my neck, and I realised I had the urge to just spin around and plant my lips on- Don’t even go there, Roxy. I snapped out of my trance. I crossed my arms over my chest, still waiting for his response further. I heard him chuckle softly, and a shiver went down my spine. But suddenly, he was gone, and my head snapped up and I spun around. He was back to standing with his gang, and I found myself wanting to go to him. My eyes narrowed as he smirked at me, probably thinking I had fallen for his act. “Well, it was certainly nice watching you lovely ladies. But I’m afraid we have somewhere to be.” Alexander nodded towards the door, where all of them started walking towards. None of them glanced back once, and I started shaking in anger. When the door shut, I grabbed my shoe from the floor and flung it at the door, causing a loud bang. Rae glared at the door while Kaera just remained silent, looking at her feet. Stupid, stupid, stupid! I cursed myself. You shouldn’t have fallen for that, you will never fall for that again, no matter how freaking hot he can be. I scolded myself angrily. Why the hell did he have to be so freaking attractive?
