"No sudden movements," said Tanith.

Mevolent froze, trying to keep his balance while not getting nicked by the sword. He rather enjoyed ruling the world and wanted to continue ruling for another few centuries.

Skulduggery casually strolled towards them, straightening his tie as he did so. He scanned the mages for any serious damage and was satisfied when he saw none of them were hurt. Or rather, none of the ones he brought were.

"This is how this is going to work," he said. "You let me and my friends go home and we don't separate your leader's head from the rest of his body."

The Redhoods glanced over at Mevolent who still had a Tanith on his shoulders and a sword at his throat.

"Do as he says, you fools!" he bellowed.

The Redhoods all backed away slowly and Tanith carefully climbed down from Mevolent's shoulders. The six mages walked out of the room without any trouble.

As they approached the rendezvous point they saw Saracen leaning against the wall.

"Where were you while we were facing Mevolent?" asked Dexter, a faint tone of annoyance in his voice.

"Here, as back-up." Saracen replied.

"And how would you have known we were in trouble?"

"I know things."

"And how's that?"

"Do I look like I'm on my deathbed, Vex?"

Dexter swore under his breath.

"Language," scolded Sacren.

"English." Dexter retorted.

Gracious cleared his throat. "If you two lovebirds are quite finished-"

He was interrupted as Creyfon Signate appeared to return them to their dimension. They linked arms, Tanith right at the end so she didn't kill anyone, and shunted.

Upon their arrival, they headed to find Dr Synecdoche to get checked over. It didn't take them long. As she was finishing checking over Kallista,a distraught mage walked in and talked quietly to Skulduggery. Once the mage left, Skulduggery turned to everyone else.

"It appears while we've been gone Darquesse has killed China and set fire to Britain. All of Britain" he told them, "and now she's back in Ireland."

A deathly silence fell in the room.

Kallista was the one who broke it.

"We're going to have to kill her. Now.," she said, barely audible.

Skulduggery spun on his heel and walked out of the room.

"His loyalty to Val is going to tear the world apart," Saracen noted glumly.

"It's the same with all of us though. We'll all hesitate when the time comes" said Tanith.

Dr Synecdoche straightened up and picked up her clipboard.

"You're all good to go. No serious injuries," she said abruptly before walking out the room.

The mages watch her go, somber looks on their faces. Valkyrie had touched a lot of people at the sanctuary in six years.

"I wouldn't hesitate," came a whisper.
