Growing Feet

Chapter 7

We had to go to Jessie's today for Jace's Birthday party. I woke Drew up and gave him some of his medicine. He's been feeling a lot better but he has to take the medicine for ten days so he still has to take it.

I got him dressed and Nick had breakfast on the table. As I went to go get dressed Nick sat with him while they ate. I put on a strapless sundress and some sandals. I put my hair into some slight curls and did my makeup. When I went back into the living room Nick and Drew were playing airplane.

"Alright guys let's go" I said grabbing Drews bag and my purse. Nick grabbed the keys and carried Drew downstairs. We got in the car and Nick drove 20 minutes to Jessie's. We got there and Drew ran out to the car and into the house.

Nick and I walked in a few minutes later and was greeted with hugs. "Hello" I said to everyone while I kissed their cheeks.

"Hi!" Jessie yelled running over to me and giving me a kiss. "Jace is upstairs getting ready but everyone else in the backyard" I nodded and we walked in the backyard. Drew was playing with Paisley and Jake on the swing set.

"So what is going on with you and Nick?" Kasey asked me while handing me a drink.

"He's living with me, sleeping with me and takes care of Drew with me"

"Mhmm" Kasey said as we all sat down outside. We all talked for awhile before it was time for Cake. We sang happy birthday to Jace and then Jake shoved Jaces face into the cake.

"Oh cmon" Jace yelled sitting up. We laughed and opened gifts before the kids went downstairs to play and the adults stayed upstairs.

"So now that all the kids are gone Jason and I have to tell you all something" Jessie said sitting in the couch next to Jason.

"What's up?" Kasey asked while sitting on Masons lap.

"Kason has Leukemia" Jason said while holding Jessie's hand. You could see her tear up before he said anything.

"What? How I thought he was healed years ago with the bone marrow transplants" Hailey said shocked. I wiped a tear away before looking around at everyone's reaction. Kelly and Jim looked sad but something told me they knew before we did. Mason and Jake had tears in their eyes. Kasey and Hailey looked like they were in state of shock along with me and Nick.

"He was supposed to be but we went to the doctors the other day for a routine check up and they found it. They said it's probably too late to go through chemo or radiation so" Jessie said before crying.

"So what? We wait for him to die" Jake said angerily. "That's not fair, we have to do something"

"There's nothing to be done Jake. He has a month, maybe less. All we can do is pray he gets through it, it would be a miracle but we have to hope" Kelly said rubbing Nicks back.

"So does he know?" I asked finally saying something.

"He knows he is really sick and he will die soon but he doesn't know when" Jason said. I nodded before Paisley came upstairs crying.

"Mommy Drew hit me" she cried. She ran to Hailey and she wrapped her in her arms soothing her. I walked downstairs to find Drew and found him hiding in the corner.

"Why'd you hit Paisley?"

"She was trying to bite me mommy, ask Uncle Jacey"

"She was" Jace said justifying his claim.

"Okay but you need to sit in time out for 3 minutes for hitting her okay?" Drew started to cry but still came and sat in timeout on the stairs. I set the timer next to him for three minutes and walked away.
