Chapter 9

I just wanna deeply apologize that it took this long to get an update up! I started my senior year of high school and started my freshman year of college! I will be more active hopefully a lot more! Thanks for understanding and I hope you enjoy the rest of this!

I came home from work and Nick was sleeping on the couch. I woke him up and he smiled at me.  "you're home late" he said sitting up.

"There was trouble with a kid at work." I nodded. "Where's Drew?"

"He went to bed about an hour ago"

"Oh thank you for watching him all day"

"I've told you before you don't have to thank me"

"I know but I'm still gonna" I said hugging him.

I went and checked on Drew and he was fast asleep in his bed. I turned his tv off and shut his door before going to shower.

After my shower I rolled into bed next to Nick and he kissed me goodnight. I feel asleep fast but not before thinking long and hard about our new child at work, Lexi. She was 15 and probably the angriest kid I've seen in my career. She got kicked out of her house due to drugs and being abusive to her family members. I spent the rest of the night trying to figure out what to do with her before I drifted to sleep cuddled next to Nick.

The next morning I woke up to a phone call from Hailey. "Hello" I answered very groggy and tired. I looked at the time and it was 3:47am.

"I'm sorry it's late but I didn't know who else to call." She was crying and I could tell she was pacing.

"Hailey what's going on what happened?" I asked as I sat up in the bed. Nick was waking up now and looking at me confused.

"I went to check on Paisley and she's not here" she cried into the phone.

"Wait what? Paisley is not there?"

"I searched all over the house Tay and I can't find her. I don't know what to do"

"Call the police. I'll be there in a minute" I said already getting out of bed. I hung up the phone and got dressed.

"Where are you going?" Nick asked me sitting up looking confused.

"Paisleys missing, Hailey can't find her anywhere" I said putting on my shoes.

"Oh shit" he hopped out of bed and put a shirt on and some sweatpants. I ran into Drew's room and carried him down to the car with Nick following behind me with his diaper bag and car keys.

In 5 minutes we pulled into Haileys apartment complex. There's already about a dozen cops here and Jake is with Hailey on her front porch. I ran over to her and she hugged me.

"Someone took her" Hailey said crying into my shoulder. Jake was also crying but could tell he was trying to keep it together.

"We're gonna find her" I said as Kasey and Mason pulled up. Jessie, Kelly, Jason and Jim showed up at almost exactly the same time as them. The police were talking to Jake and Hailey trying to figure out what happened. News trucks started to show up and a crowd started to form.

"Three year old little girl missing" "Missing child" "Child taken from her home in the middle of the night" we're all headlines we started to hear. Jace took Kylie and Drew back to Jessie's to watch them with Kason.

"Hi I'm officer Milly, and I'll be handling your case. Before we get started do you have any pictures of Paisley we can give to the Press so it's not just a few people looking for your daughter it's hundreds and thousands of people." Jake took one of Paisleys pictures off the wall and gave it to Milly.

"I have a few questions for the mother and father and I would like them to be alone.  Can you all please  go sit in a separate room." We all nodded and left as she started to ask Hailey and Jake questions. After about an hour the officer came out.

"I'm gonna go back to the office and we're gonna find your daughter, niece and granddaughter. I promise you and we're not supposed to make promises but I will not rest until she is found" Hailey hugged her goodbye as we all sat in the living room. Nobody was talking just sitting and crying. Jason brought breakfast but no one really ate anything.

"How did I let this happen" Hailey asked herself out loud.

"This isn't your fault" Kasey said to her.

"We live in one of the safest apartments in town. How did whoever took my baby get in here and out without me noticing, without anybody noticing."

"Does anyone have a key?"

"Only Jessie, Jake, and you" she said to me.

"Someone got in here and someone took our baby when we were in the room over" Jake said crying in his hands.

A few hours passed and we took turns getting coffee and trying to get Hailey and Jake to sleep. Officers were in and out of her apartment taking pictures and clothing and things out of Paisleys room. News outlets were putting her picture everywhere and Hailey was getting phone calls left and right. But still nothing. No sight and no evidence leading to finding Paisley.
