Where Do Broken Hearts Go?

Chapter 20

Anu and Ani along with Venba continued on their quest to find Iyyaps. They somehow managed to escape the forest and finally reach back to their hotel room.

On their way back, AniRudh's heart was beating so loud. He had tiny droplets of sweat over his forehead which was just partly water but mostly stress, concern and love.

Anu was also very uncomfortable about the scenario. Since it was her first time she had encountered such a situation.

She hugged Venba tight and caressed her back trying to console her. But she failed as Venba kept sobbing and over thinking scenarios of "what if" (s) could happen to her beloved brother.

It was a cold breezy night. The city was quiet and everything and everyone just seemed so suspicious to them.

The torches seemed mysterious and so did the forest cover. The midnight dogs howling in the background for added freakiness.

"Vannakam! You're listening to Radio Mirchi 98.3FM! I am RJ Balaji! So the time now in Chennai is 12:15 midnight! So we're playing some amazing melodies back to back at this calm november midnight!... " The radio buzzed.

They finally reached a nearby police station and issued a complain. Venba was crying non-stop. She kept on worrying too much. Anu watching this sight began to sob in the thoughts of Vaishu.

She could understand the pain. She has been through almost the same, but she was lost forever.

They got back into their cab With Anu and Ani near the window seats with Venba in the middle who laid her head on Anu's shoulder with Anu just gently caressing her pink, creased cheek.

Anu sighed. She slowly leaned back on the car's seat, looking out of the window in deep grief. Nostalgia on wheels. All the past trailed through her mind.

She just looked blank at the moon. Her eyes glimmered with the tear in the verge of trailing down her cheek.

Little did she know that, that one tear was the plug to her thoughts and emotions. Just as it was, the little one made his way down her pale cheeks which slowly turned pink, followed by all the droplets of depression.

Her sobbing noises, which were pretty negligible, were sensed by AniRudh, which made him slowly turn towards Anu.

AniRudh's heart sank. He just wanted to be killed. He felt like he had lost everything.

Everything around him just felt dull and colorless. The sense of domestic felicity was zilch.

He lent his hand out to her, gently holding her hand. Anu, still remained unmoved just lost completely in her thoughts.

To bring her back to senses, he gripped her hand tight, just when her palms turned red as the flushed with color.

Anu, finally felt the pain. But didn't really bother as her thoughts were even painful. She slowly looked down at her hand which was knotted with her soul mate's.

She looked up at him slowly. AniRudh gazed right into her eyes. He knew something was definitely not right. He quickly raised his eyebrows in a strict manner, which displayed a question mark.

Anu, looked at Venba. She pulled her hand out from Ani's grip which left him quite confused.

She gently lifted Venba's cheek from her wet shoulder and moved to the middle seat while moving Venba to her other Window seat.

She again, gripped his hand back again.

"En Kai ah...pidi..." (Hold my hand) She ordered him as she leaned on his chest.

"Huh?" asked Ani still confused, with a questioned face.

"Eruma! Kai ah pidi nu sonnen!" (You fool! I told you to hold my hand!) Anu whispered to Ani in an angry tone with a grin.

Ani, terrified already with his future wife, held her hands tight. Anu chuckled.

"I don't know how Ani. But you just make me so happy. You make me smile da! I was just so depressed with my thoughts of my late Vaishu...I..." Anu stopped nd began crying again and completely wetted AniRudh's shirt.

AniRudh, slowly and tenderly caressed her silky hair. He was quite confused. "

Who is Vaishu? Was it his own sister?

"But she is still alive!" He wondered.

"Anu babie, Who's Vaishu?" he asked her politely and kissed her forehead.

"Vaishu?" Anu chuckled. "She, she was a charm. Vaishnavi was the apple of my eye and she still is and mine forever. I loved her so much. She is no one else but just another human who developed in the same womb as me 9 years before I did. I miss her so much. But God, just got jealous of me for having her, he took her, being selfish. I hate him" she Explained just rewinding her memories in her head.

AniRudh's heart skipped a beat. Vaishnavi was all that struck him. Vaishu Akka. His older sister who presently lives in London, England.

"Vaishnavi" he said softly.

"Yes, her." Anu looked up at AniRudh and gazed into his eyes.

"You know what, one day when I was about 9 she told me, if I ever missed her while she was off from home, I could talk to the moon and it will convey my message to her. And she told me that when we leave this world, we will shine as stars in the sky to watch out our loved ones. I used to always tell her everything I feel which I felt I couldn't express to my mum." She said as a warm tear rolled down her cheeks.

AniRudh, kissed Anu's forehead. "Yes babie, that's true." Thats exactly what His sister Vaishnavi had told him.

"Babie ma, but why did she have to go?" he asked her.

He quickly sensed that Anu's grip over his hand got tighter to a point where his muscle cramped. Along with that, he heard Anu taking a deep breath, and she let out her tears with a burst.

"THERIADHU ANIRUDH! EN...ENNAK....ENNAKKU...TH...THE...THER....ENNAKU THERIAYDHU DA!" she exploded and burst crying.

"I was only 10 when she left me. I don't know why, but my appa was still mad at her even when she left us but later on he forgived her. I always asked amma why she was no longer with us, but she always said that Vaishu was not well. But that's not the truth! I remember those nights where she used to cry and I used to wipe her tears and kiss her forehead and pretend to be her mother and she would plaster a fake smile to make me happy." Anu sobbed.

AniRudh patiently gave way for Anu to leak out all her feelings. He patiently listened to everything she was saying. Without his conscious a tear rolled down his cheek. He couldn't stand the scenario.
