I slowly bring my hands up to my throat. It feels like I'm not breathing, yet I'm not exactly dead. Everything that I'm not directly looking at starts to get fuzzy. I look at Caleb and I see he's not looking at me anymore, but at Jace.

"What the hell did you do to her?" I hear Jace shout at Caleb.

I open my mouth to say something, but no words come out. Caleb just simply looks at Jace like he's dumb.

"Oh just sit down Jace," Caleb says amused.

Of course he thinks it's funny. Why wouldn't he? I look at Jace and he's already out of his seat. He cautiously sits down, switching his gaze from Caleb, to me, and back again. I look back at Caleb and I see that's he's looking at me.

"Oh Clary, you poor thing. You'll be fine... for now at least," Caleb tells me.

Caleb sighs before opening his mouth to speak again.

"Yes Clary, I did poison you. I had poisoned Madison long before you two had even arrived at Whiteland's house. The poison that's in you is the same poison that I had put in Madison. It's not how fast the poison works, it's the amount of poison you use. But that's not what Jia told you is it?" Caleb says.

I give him a long hard stare. He chuckles and gives me a sad look.

"I know you can't speak so don't try. I never wanted to do this to you, but you left me no choice," he tells me sadly.

"How the hell did she leave you no choice?!" Jace shouts at Caleb.

"I will get to that in a minute. I'm sure you'll want to hear what I'm going to say," Caleb calmly replies.

I look at Jace. If looks could kill, Jace would've killed Caleb 10 fold.

"I should start at the beginning, shouldn't I? David Whiteland was experimenting with demons, as you know but no one seems to know what he was trying to achieve? David only thought that he knew what he was working on. He was arrogant, thinking that no one would figure out what he was doing, but then how did the Clave manage to find him and put the end to his experiments at least at that time? I had heard word of what he was doing. He was trying to achieve something minor. He didn't want to have world domination or anything. Instead all he wanted to do was be to make a device that harnessed demonic energies that he can use to defend himself. What he didn't know was that his experiments could've been used for so much more than what he was trying to achieve. Many people were after his notes, anything they could get from his experiments. I had tipped off the Clave, telling them that David was experimenting and tampering with things that he shouldn't of been. So while they caught David I got everything I could take from his lab. I took things from notes to even samples from his test subjects. This was one of the most important steps in my plan. David knew I stole his work, so I had to act fast before he tipped off someone. I had someone loyal to me take him out. I had worked on this for years, even made myself appear as someone you could trust. Those people I've been staying with aren't my real parents, those are demons shape-shifted to appear as humans. My parents have been dead for quite some time. You Clary, weren't part of my plan originally. You came in later when I learned that you're special. That you can do special things that no one else can do. You might still be of use to me yet."

"Why did you poison her, then?" Jace asks him.

"I was just getting to that part," Caleb tells him.

Caleb continues explaining , "At first it was easy. Making you fall in love with me, trusting me even though it wasn't as much as I had wanted. But when you fell in love with Jace, everything had changed. You were starting to question me, starting to figure me out. And of course I couldn't let that happen. I loved you Clary, I truly did. But when you started falling for someone else, I had to make adjustments in my plan. It was a setback sure, but not one I couldn't fix. You could've had so much power Clary. You could've had anything you ever wanted. I could've given you power, but it doesn't matter now. What matters now is that I finish what I started. I will win in the end."

"You won't get away with this," Jace says.

"Oh but I will," Caleb replies.

Caleb stands up from the table and pulls out a clear liquid from his pocket.

"The poison that is running through Clary's body will kill her in say, oh, five minutes. Maybe even less than that. In this bottle is a small amount of the cure for the poison. Now you'll have to make a decision, Jace. You'll either take the poison, cure Clary, and let me escape. OR, you could make me drop the poison by capturing me and letting Clary die. It's all up to you Jace. It's either Clary or me."

So that was Chapter 9. I do apologize for taking a month to write it, along with it not being really long. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, hopefully it won't take me as long to write the next one.
