The Big Bang - Chapter 1

April:

Congratulations Stephan and Mary for having baby Juliet! 7 lbs exact! Beautiful baby girl! Woo! Oh, Mary, what a great bundle of joy you have received! She looks just like you. What a great day!

Gag me. Sure I was happy that I got a new baby sister, but I already had two other baby sisters. Gwen of age 13 and Isabel age 5. Sure  I love my sisters, but Gwen is on the verge of hitting puberty already and so she’s always on my trail trying to be a teen and asking me about periods and boys and sex! Yes, sex! I mean how would she know! And then there is Isabel, who is super adorable and she’ll do the most silly things that put a smile on my face but who at night runs into my room because she’s scared to sleep alone and also scared of starting school. You would think that my mom would have her hands full but no, why? Because she is totally intoxicated with herself 24’7 and has cocktails every night and goes to the Chatter Room with her girlfriends to talk about how she is so proud of being a mom, but in reality we all know that Mary Rose Shaw is a drunk and does not give a damn about her girls. Instead, she calls me her maid, Lola Evergreen Shaw, to take care of the girls and clean the house and cook dinner and still manage to keep up with her grades and have somewhat of a social life. Yea, just freaking awesome! With Juliet now here mom will leave a bunch of breast milk, because she cares that the baby gets good natural vitamins and stuff in her system, so it will be me changing diapers, waking up at an unearthly hour to check her, and to just be a mom. Sometimes I wonder why Mary decided to have so many children that she wouldn’t be able to take care of because she is so unselfish. Then there is Stephan. He’s is Gwen’s, Isabel’s and my step dad. He’s rich and works as an architect. We live in this big blue house on Conelly Rd. and all of our neighbors are wealthy and love to brag about their status. But you see they don’t know about my mom and her constant drinking. They also don’t know that Stephan’s son, Richard, is a disowned son and he is a wonderful step-brother. Stephan was a nice guy at the beginning, but ever since Juliet, he’s become a little bit abusive. Mary and Stephan fight a lot. One night he finally slapped her. And she did nothing…she just took it. Now Stephan drinks, and comes home late, and sometimes when he’s bored with Mary he comes looking for me. I live outside in the pool house, perfect for him because no one can hear me screaming and yelling and fighting. This is where I will officially start my story. You ready? Its not pretty. Here it goes.

June:

I wake up sweating and feeling nauseous, I check the clock, 6:00 a.m. I look around my room feeling a bit disoriented. I keep on having the nightmare, where I’m running looking for my sisters because they are in trouble and I have to rescue them. But just when I’m almost there, I get blacked out by a punch to my face and then I wake up like this. Feeling out of breath and sweaty. I sigh and then yawn. Today is the same. I take a shower and get my back pack. Grab my keys lock my door and I’m out and into the main house. I walk to Gwen’s room first. Knock knock. I push the door open and Gwen is in her shower.

“Gwen! 20 minutes, I’ll have breakfast ready.”

“okay! I’m almost done.”

I walk out closing the door on my way. I turn around the corner and I bump into Stephan. I don’t show my fear. I’m not scared of him, but he does make me feel chills, and I think that as long as he is on me he’ll leave my sisters out of it.

“Good morning Lola.” He gets closers and smiles at me.

“Hello.” I say grinding my teeth. I can feel him breathing on me.

“You look good today, you always do.” And he gets closer and leans down and gives my a kiss on the cheek. I back up against the wall and push him off. He grabs my wrist and pulls me to him into a hug.
