"Oh!" Dustin's voice heightened in pitch as she spoke. "Look at all of it!" She said, referencing to all the new houses surrounding the neighborhood and directing her pointing to many of the homes. The ones that years ago, weren't there.
Only one other house was their 'neighbor' in the days before. Remembering thoughts about silly fantasies she would always have. Of wanting a next door neighbor. Not really having one as she grew up, caused her to dream about one.
And now her sight was engulfed with them. One on the right, yet not one the left, but now seeing several linked throughout the private block. Dustin wouldn't dare to stop admiring that beautiful mutual row it formed.
Catching her eye then, was the closest one to them in their current position and their home.
The house next door.
Wrapped in a glistening dark blue color paint, or siding it was hard to tell. It looked like it was made of silk, no matter how weird that would sound if she tried to describe it. It was amazing how it added to the homie radiance adding even more. She could not help but admire it all from afar. An American flag swaying in faint wind, the landscaping dripping in an intense, almost artificial green color.
While looking at it, she opened the black suv door, almost equally as shiny if it went through a needed car wash, and grabbed the only thing she had brung on the long flight, her backpack. Dustin swung the carry-on that was considerably weighted over her back and grinned towards her father pressing a button to lock their car.
Her gaze soon following to Muna who was too many steps ahead, to count. She was making her way up the twisty concrete path and towards the broad timber doors. Their color the same as an aging pine cone that fell onto backwoods ground from great heights. They were just so unique, leaving the one of a kind doors an eye catcher from the street below, along with so many things that made up the house. It was and will always be that house. One that would catch eyes and be admired.
Dustin followed the woman; Muna soon having someone jogging behind her as she lead the way. Dustin would look up at the house, then every once and awhile glancing down at her feet. Picking up a small pebble, tossing it towards a side garden so it was out of the pathway.
She grinned thinking of what awaits, stoping at the first step, she was eager to be stepping up the few stairs onto the front porch.
Muna waited for everyone to be standing next to her before she pushed open the large doors, hearing the creak once they all reached the entrance. As they opened, Dustins nose was immediately met with a smell that wafted around only that place. The smell of the house she remembered. A fragrance she wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, even if she tried. It had traces of wood and and real vanilla mixed together in a strange way, though they never once had vanilla scents laying around to create that unique aroma.
Seeing the dark wood beams laying across the ceiling and the lighting that always seemed dark, yet light at the same time, it was all just perfection mixed together; aesthetic architecture at its finest, flashing memories into her and imminent hopes.
The stairway made a slight curl as it ended and stepping into the house she could see the details in what seemed like every little thing. Tracing her fingers around the wood railing Dustin stepped on the first step and got a good glimpse of the high window panes above the door. Leaving the interior poured with light at that moment. Dustin feeling it caress her skin as it often would.
There was a room half hidden from sight, a few boxed scattered around, but besides that it would be nearly impossible to know people had moved in so recent and or are in the process of moving in.
Dustin turned around with the thought of a very important thing. Her lips parting and just as she was about to ask about it what she had on her mind, she heard faint whining muffled through the walls.
She watched as her dad walked to a room reaching his arm over to opening another door. With the action of twisting a door handle, it suddenly burst open, letting everyone examine a glowing copper colored pooch who was not long ago, sleeping in that room.
Her arms were almost full, as the dog jumped up. Acting like he wanted to portray a lap dog, it just wanted Dustin to hold him, the heavy weight though, making her stoop on the steps, nearly falling.
"Rambo" She said in a hushed tone as she held him in her arms. His wiggling body trying to find peace once she had arrived. With no prevail he jumped around like a rabid. Yet he never failed to put a smile on anyones face, unless they were afraid of him.
"Most of your things of course are in the boxes you packed and in-" Her dad stopped mid sentence staring up the staircase with a grin. "Speaking of surprises." He motioned for her to follow, Dustin climbing up the slick stairs partially behind him.
