I woke up from the sound of the doorbell ringing. I didn't know where Luna or Jesse had gone. I patted down the stairs in the silent house. Where was everyone? I reached the door and pulled it open. And there she stood. My mother. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought she wouldn't be back for another four months? And where was my dad? Did they not come back home together?

"Mom?" I asked. She looked up at me.

"Joey, my baby! How are you!" She jumped on me, almost knocking me over. She never acted like this. What had gotten into her?

"Im good mom. Where's dad? Didn't you guys come home together? I thought you guys were going to be gone for another four months?"

"He  couldn't come home because they still needed him for the movie since he IS the director. But I decided to come home and check on you all! Aren't you happy to see me?" Her face fell a bit. I immediately felt ashamed. Of course I should be excited. She's my mother. Even if she hasn't really been there for me and Jesse, she was still our mother. I put on a grin.

"Of course Im happy to see you! I'm just a bit dazed from the nap I took." Her face lit up, but the smile didn't quite reach her eyes. Wasn't she just happy a moment ago? Wasn't she the one upset about me supposedly not being happy to see her?

"Well, do you mind helping me with my bags hon?" She motioned to the stacks of bags sitting in the trunk of a taxi. Was I seeing correctly? She never rode a taxi. It was always a limo. If she was seen in anything else it would kill her. Especially a taxi.

"Why did you ride in a taxi mom?"

"Just thought I'd make a bit of a change. Why waste money renting a limo? Taxi's are so much cheaper." Was she joking? Taxi's arent very cheap. Sometimes your just better off with the limo. I didn't bother arguing with her though. Why start an argument when she just got here? And just to check up on us? She never did that. Once I finished off with her bags, I went down to the living room where she was.

"Come sit down with me Joey! We have to catch up on things! How have you been! Are you doing good in school? How are Luna and the boys adjusting to the move?" My mind swirled with all of her questions. Why did she want to know so much? She was acting very differently.

"Oh, everything is good mom. Luna and the boys are good. Although I don't know where any of them are actually."

"That's fine. How is Jesse?" For some reason that set something off in me. I didn't know what it was. I thought of Jesse and my mixed emotions towards him. I honestly didn't know how Jesse was. We hadn't spoken to eachother.

My mind felt clouded for a bit. I wasn't thinking straight. I felt overwhelmed with a feeling I couldn't describe. The logical part of my mind didn't seem to be working at the moment. And that was when I blurted it out. I didn't know I had been holding it back. I didn't know I felt it at all. But it just flew from my lips.

"I love Jesse." I said.

"Yes babe, we all do. How is he?" What was I doing? Why was I saying these things? And why couldn't I stop myself?

"No, mom. I'm in love with him. More than a brother. And more than a friend." She looked at me, confused. Then the realiztion hit her like a slap to the face. She had rage in her eyes. A fire that grew as the seconds ticked by. I was terrified. I didn't know why those words had come from my lips. But they did. And I didn't know they would ,ake her react like this.

I backed away from her on the couch. She stood. Something was changing in her body. I could see her veins moving up and back agaisnt her skin. Her legs and arms twitched. Suddenly her spine bent back in a way that was physically impossible. I heard the crack. And a gurgling noise came from her throat. I couldn't look away. My body was in shock. I watched as she transformed.

The once perfect nails on her finger grew into sharp pointed claws. They looked like deadly hooks. The skin that I had always known as flawless turned into a blue-purple color. Her teeth were no longer white pearls. In place of them were raged fangs and an unhooked jaw. Her mouth widened and I couldnt hear the bones in her mouth crush and move. Her spine then lurched foward and her shoulder blades moved and dug our from her skin.

The blood gushed everywhere and our once white couch was stained with it. What used to be shoulder blades extended from her back and I could see black feathers covered in a sticky black goo. Whatever blood had escaped her body now began to bubble. I wanted to vomit. The stench clouded my nostrils and I gagged. Whatever was in front of my eyes was not my mother. And that was when I heard it speak.

"You will never be able to love Jesse in any way other than a brother!" It screeched. It didnt have the voice of my mother. It sounded like a demon. I noticed the walls had begun to burn. I came to my senses and jumped off of the couch. I was not going to sit there and let myself die. I began to sprint for the nearest exit. I rushed to to the front door. I heard the thump thump of the wings behind me. If only I could reach the door!

And then everything went black.
