Alistair clenched his binder in his hands, his eyes darting from student to student. He hadn't seen any new kids yet, but the overwhelming feeling that today wasn't going to be a good day still lingered in his gut.

And his gut never lied.

"Ali!"A high pitched voice from behind yelled, making Alistair flinch. Only one person called him that, and she was pissed off at him. Turning, Alistair summoned a smile."Cas, how you doing?"

Cassandra, his 'little sister' hit him on the chest with her pink binder."You scared me half to death! I was worried sick about you,"

"You're starting to sound an awful lot like your mother, Cassandra Clair Maze."Cassandra gasped then hit him harder."How dare you compare me to her!" Alistair moved her pale hand away and shrugged his shoulders. Cassandra was a good fourteen year old, even if she was really girly at times.

She knew how to stay out of Alistair's room, and she cared enough about him to help patch him up without asking questions."Look," she sighed, rubbing her temple."Just try not to scare Mu-Angela, okay? Please, it really worried her that you didn't answer."

Before Alistair could respond, his stomach clenched into knots. He grabbed his stomach with such a swift movement that he almost dropped his own binder. "Ali? You okay? Do I need to go get the nurse?" The bell rang, and Alistair used this as an excuse.

"Go to class. I'm fine," he didn't look down at her concerned face; he looked around, his sharp eyes evaluating each and every student.

And that's when he saw them.

Six students, all holding up blue pieces of paper and looking around like lost puppies. None of them looked like vampires, but vampires were crafty beings.

Four of them were guys, and only two were girls. One guy was big, burly, and dark skinned. He was easily six feet plus, which towered over the other new kids. He had snakebites on his lower lip and a sleeve of tattoos, but he seemed pretty nice.

One of the other boys was sickly pale and had off-white hair that reminded Alistair of the snow. He looked scared as his pale eyes darted around nervously.

The last two boys looked a lot alike, but Alistair could easily see the differences; one was two inches taller, the other had freckles, and the taller one had a more serious attitude. Probably brothers.

The first girl that caught Alistair's eyes was the tall black haired girl. She had small facial features and was pale; her green eyes were a bit squinty. She was pretty, and she had a slight egotistical ego about her as she gave the tallest boy a sly smile.

The last girl was small and sort of frail looking. She had pale blonde hair and glowing green eyes and a deep tan. She could probably pass as a 'California Girl', that's for sure. She quickly spotted Alistair through the small crowd and smiled lightly and shyly.

Alistair gave a small smile back."Sutton!" A teacher from the side yelled, taking his attention. "Get to class."It was Mr. Dailey, the math teacher. He was notoriously known for giving the most detentions, and he also had the most ridiculous looking pair of glasses ever."I forgot my other binder-"

"I'm so sure,"Mr. Dailey responded, grabbing Alistair's collar. If he wasn't a teacher, Alistair would have him on the floor by now. Grinding his teeth, Alistair was pushed out of the way and into his homeroom class, Mrs. Mathews.

Just as he got inside, the bell rang."Mr. Sutton!" Mrs. Mathews called out, not even looking up from her attendance sheet. Alistair sighed."Yes ma'am?" he asked tiredly. Knowing the teachers at the school, he was probably going to get detention.

The whole class turned to face him. Mrs. Mathews finally looked up, her brown eyes evaluating Alistair like he had killed a kitten."You're late."

"I wasn't late, ma'am."Alistair responded sharply, though he soon regretted it. Angela and Roland often got onto him for his attitude towards his teachers, but his teachers were stupid."If your butt is not in the seat when the bell rings, then you are late. Detention, Mr. Sutton."

"I've got-- things, after school."He said, shifting his weight as he stood there, all of his fellow students' eyes on him."Well, I guess you could-"

Before Mrs. Mathews finished, two new students walked in. It was the frail looking blond girl and the buff black guy, both of their eyes wide as they see that the attention has turned onto them."-I guess you could show our newest students around? Yes, that sounds like a splendid idea,"

Alistair clenched his jaw and took a sideways glance at the. The taller guy didn't move, but the girl interjected."Oh, we wouldn't want to bother him," she protested, a thick southern accent popping out. Some of the kids in the class sniggered, but Mrs. Mathews quickly silenced them.

"It won't be a problem. Right, Mr. Sutton?" Mrs. Mathews asked in her poisoned honey-like voice. Alistair shrugged his shoulders."No problem."

"Great. You'll be spending the First hour of homeroom giving them the grand tour, and your detention will be suspended for now."Alistair loved the 'for now' part. Every teacher in Manchester knew that Alistair got detention at least once a week.

"But first let me introduce our new students, Romaric Jackson and Anastasia Ramos." The students that hadn't been paying attention now turned. They began talking in hushed tones as they turned to their friends, most of them with an excited look on her face.

And of course, rumors would soon spread."Hi," Anastasia said with a slight wave of her hand. Romaric gave a solemn head nod and shoved his hands into his pockets. He didn't seem comfortable in front of the students.

"Well, go ahead, Mr. Sutton."Mrs. Mathews egged, shooing them with a wave of her hands. Alistair rolled his eyes and walked past the newest students, ushering them out the door. Once Romaric closed the door behind them, Anastasia was the first to talk. "So you're Alistair, right?"

Alistair froze dead in his tracks. Mrs. Mathews had never said his first name. Turning at a 90 degree angle, Alistair stared head on at Anastasia. As his eyes seemed to get a shade darker, Anastasia let out a nervous laugh."Roland told us you took things seriously most of the time," she said, laughing airily.

"How do you know Roland?"Alistair asked. Now it was Romaric's turn to talk."The Slay Society is a close-knit organization from small portions around the world. Our leader at our old headquarters is Roland's sister."

Alistair's lip twitched."Sister?" Anastasia, who was three heads shorter than Alistair, walked up to him with her hands on her thin hips."You think that women aren't capable of becoming a slayer, Alistair?"

"I never said that, thank you."He replied snidely. Romaric huffed."New Yorkers aren't as sociable as us Southerners."Sighing, Alistair ran his hand through his dark hair."I can now see why my gut feeling has been going off. I didn't expect two new slayers to arrive today."

"Not just us, but Cole and Carter as well."Anastasia answered, shuffling her feet from side to side."Are they those twins?" asked Alistair. Romaric and Anastasia shook their heads.

"What twins?"She asked."The blond ones?" Alistair asked, confused. He could have sworn that the two blonde guys were twins, or at least related.

"You talkin' about the two guys with ash blonde hair?" Romaric asked, scratching his chin. Alistair nodded. "Oh. They aren't twins. They're not even related."
