Drew

The market was quiet and slow as the end of the day approached. I walked down the sidewalk, looking over the produce section in frustration. I jerked the list Alex made me out if my pocket again.

What the hell was a Guava Fruit? I looked over the crates of fruit again. Apples, bananas, strawberries, limes; no freaking guava fruit.

I sighed in frustration.

"Excuse me." The voice was so soft I almost didn't hear it. I looked up to see a girl with long brown hair that fell to her waist. She looked familiar.

"Excuse me..?" She said again, shyly, like she was afraid she was in my way rather than the opposite.

"Oh, sorry," I quickly tried to move out of her way. Only a few stacked crates I hadn't seen were behind me, and they all came tumbling to the ground.

I cursed under my breath and stooped to pick up the weird green fruit that had scattered the side walk. A set of small hands quickly started to help me. I paused to see that it was the girl helping me, "Hey, thanks, but you really don't have to help me. It was my mess."

She smiled at me sincerely and shook her head. "No, it's alright, really." She was American. And suddenly I recognized her. She was the girl from class.

"You're in my Advanced Lit class, right?" I asked as I tossed the last of the fruit into the crate. "I'm Drew." I told her, offering my hand to help her up.

She timidly accepted and stood to her feet.

"Thank you, I'm Ravyn." She quickly retrieved something from her bag. "I meant to return your pen, but you left so fast I didn't get a chance."

I smiled, honestly I had forgotten about it. I took the pen and slipped it into my pocket. "Thank you."

She smiled shyly, "Well it was nice to meet you, Drew, officially I mean."

"Yeah, you too." I returned her smile and waved as she turned to continue down the street.

I watched as she turned the corner then sighed and looked back at the crates of fruit we had just picked up.

I laughed out loud when I read the side of the box.

Guavas.
