Maurice entered the castle, cold and wet, he looked around the dining hall and he noticed there was a great long table with all types of food on it, chicken, pig, horse and even some home cooked meals like lasagna and meat and potato pie "Hello... Is anybody there?" No one came to where Maurice was "I'm sure the master of the house won't ming me taking liberties, no doubt someone will be back soon and I will be able to pay them, for the food." Maurice lit a fire in the fireplace and got his self a plate of food "I think I will eat everything on this plate and dry my clothes by the fire" Maurice ate up and hung his jacket up "I feel so tired I can hardly stand" so he went and made his self at home by the fire in the chair, then he fell asleep in the chair. The beast entered as if he had been watching Maurice the whole time, The beast put some rose's on the table where Maurice had eaten.
Maurice awoke from his deep sleep and looked around where he is sat "What a wonderful sleep, that was, still I don't see anyone around that I can thank or pay." Maureece stood up and got his jacket "This palace must belong to a good gentleman who understands that I need rest." Maurice got up from the chair and walked towards the table where he saw the rose's that the beast layed there "Thank you good fairy and look a rose for my Beauty" as soon as Maurice picked a rose the beast entered
"You are very ungrateful, I have saved your life by giving you food and shelter and you repay me by stealing one of my roses, which I love more than anything in the world." The beast said to Maurice.
Maurice jumped at the sound of the beast's voice "My liege forgive me, I did not think I would be offending you by picking a flower for my daughter, who asked for me to bring her one back."
The beast was unimpressed "Do not call me your liege, my name is the Duke and flattery will not win you my favour. But you mentioned something about a daughter."
Maurice realised what the Duke was asking "no please..."
The Beast wouldn't co-operate and just ignored Maurice's pleading "I am prepared to forgive you if your daughter consents to be punished in your place." Maurice tried to change his mind but it was no use the Beast wouldn't listen "don't argue just go! If you do not bring her back, I will find another way to punish you.
The Beast walked away back to the table and Maurice left the the room he was stood in and started speaking aloud "I cannot possibly give up my daughter, but what about the other punishment he spoke of? I don't have any money to pay him off; maybe I can leave now and find some way to get out of this arrangement. I am very clever and so is my daughter we will think of a way to break this" Maurice left the beautiful eerie mansion, the palace and headed home back to his family.
