~chapter 12~

Of course I couldn't stay at school the rest of the day. After lunch I went to the nurse and faked being sick. "Who do you want to come pick you up?" Asked the nurse. I don't trust my dad anymore, and my mom is at work.

"Can't I just walk home by myself ?"

"Sorry honey, can't have you leave the building without a guardian over the age of eighteen." She says. Well this sucks.

"But, my mom and dad are at work." I lied. My dad is probably at home drinking.

The nurse sighs and looks up from her computer screen. I lift my eyebrows and try to smile. But it's hard.

"Fine, I'll write you a pass to exit the building," I can finally breath again.

One. Two. Three.

No friends, no family to count on, and no clean skin.

I look down at my wrists, caked with blood. Why do I do this to myself? But then I think of a quote I saw in a book, use pain to relieve pain.

When I got home dad wasn't even here. I don't know where he is, but frankly, I don't care.

I decide to text Allison.

Where were you today?

I wait a few moments, but finally my phone vibrates.

Oh, I was sick.

Will you be back tomorrow?

No reply.

Allison?

Still nothing.

Are you ok? Answer me!

Now I'm worried.
