Chapter 7
Tay's P.O.V.
"Uh, hey," Alex said, standing in the doorway of his apartment. "Come in." I walked in and immediately threw myself on his couch. "You want a beer?"
"I want a sledgehammer," I said into the pillow.
"That's a shooter, but okay."
I rolled over and looked at Alex. "I quit at Renegade today."
"Really? Why?"
"Because Hayley Williams is an uptight bitch who only thinks about herself." I sit up, propping myself up on my elbows. "Why did I come here and not All Time Dry-Cleaning? And why aren't you working?"
Alex sighed and sat down on the couch, placing my legs on his lap. "We went outta business," he said sadly.
"Lex, I'm so sorry." I moved my legs from his lap and moved so that I could rest my head on his shoulder.
He forced a smile. "It's alright... It was destined to happen."
"No, it wasn't." I sighed. "Hayley switched dry-cleaners. That's why I quit."
"You quit for me?"
I nodded. "I quit because I didn't want to work for a heartless witch. You're the sweetest guy I've ever met, and Jack's awesome. I can't say for sure for Zack and Rian, but I'm sure they're as awesome as Jack. You don't deserve this. You deserve to do what makes you happy. I'm sorry."
Alex was looking down at his hands, playing with his fingers, and next thing I know, he was pulling me into a soft kiss. He pulled me into his lap and I wrapped my arms around his neck as his own went around my waist. We kissed for about ten more seconds before my phone began to ring.
"We're always interrupted," Alex breathed, sounding upset.
I laughed and pulled my phone out of my pocket. Jeremy? "Hey, Jerm."
"Uh, Tay, where are you?"
"I'm at Alex's apartment. Why?"
"Because Hayley went after you!"
"You're fucking kidding me!"
"Not even the slightest bit. You need to get back here or Hayley will give up on her first apology since she started working here." Jeremy hung up and I slid my phone back in my pocket.
"Hayley Williams is looking for me," I said happily, pecking Alex on the lips.
"If this is like one of those absconder things, I know people who can hide you," Alex said.
I laughed. "No, she wants to apologize."
"Then why are you letting me hold you back? Get outta here!"
"Come with me!"
"Noooo. You can't ma-" I pressed my lips to his and he kissed back. "So where are we going?" he asked in a dream-like state.
"To Renegade."
Hayley's P.O.V.
I searched seemingly everywhere around town for Tay, but to no avail. Maybe I had really lost the best secretary I could've asked for. But it was more than that. No one had ever dared to tell me their actual feelings about me, not even after they would quit or get fired. Tay was...head-strong, and that was why I liked. She wasn't afraid, and I loved her spunk.
Okay, saying spunk makes me sound older than twenty-five. Oops.
I eventually gave up on her and walked back to the office. When people saw me, they waved and I forced a smile, waving back. It had been a while since I'd taken a walk around town. I used to always take walks when I first started Renegade, just to clear my head of the stress.
Damn Tay and her ability to bring out the old me.
As I walked out of the elevator, it seemed as though the entire office was holding their breath. Matty looked at me and I shook my head, bowing it soon after. I walked into my office and turned around to slowly close the door. I heard someone clear their voice behind me and I jumped, turning around quickly.
"And where were you off to, Ms. Williams?" Tay asked with a smile.
"I was just, uh..." I swallowed, trying to think of an excuse. Nothing. "Looking for you, you idiot!" Without thinking, I ran at Tay, enveloping her in a large hug. No doubt the biggest one she'd ever gotten. She stumbled backwards, but quickly regained herself and hugged me back. "Where were you?" I asked when I pulled away.
"I was at Alex's," she replied. "All Time Dry-Cleaning went out of business..."
My eyes widened. No. I will personally pay to have that business up and running. Besides, Tay's a hard girl. If this Alex guy stole her heart, he must be worth every penny to spend.
"No, not for long," I said.
"What do you mean?" Tay furrowed her eyebrows in childish confusion.
"I'm going to buy it."
