Chapter 6

Tay's P.O.V.

"Someone's happy today," came a teasing voice.

I just smiled. "Good morning, Jeremy."

"It is indeed, according to that smile. What's up?"

"Oh, nothing really. I just had the best date ever."

"Oh? With who?" Sometimes, it surprised me that Jeremy was straight. He acted so feminine sometimes.

I looked around, making sure no one was just watching. "No one really, just the guy I see at All Time Dry-Cleaning all the time. Ugh, he is so hot."

"Alex?"

I nodded, smiling wide. "And... we're going out again this Saturday."

"Where are you going?"

"Oh, into town a little ways. He said we were going all over New York."

"Sounds so roma-"

"Get to work," Hayley said harshly, walking past Jeremy and I. She walked straight into her office, closed the door, and closed the blinds.

I looked at Jeremy. "How do you deal with her?"

"Years of experience," he replied. "You will get used to it. Eventually."

I rolled my eyes and waved goodbye to Jeremy before walking hesitantly to Hayley's office door. I knocked and she called for me to come inside.

"Ah, Tay," she called and I smiled on the inside. She remembered my name for once. "I was just letting you know that we've switched dry-cleaners."

"What- why?" I practically yelled.

Hayley rose her eyebrows and I just wanted to dissolve into the wall. "My fiancé found a dry-cleaners that is owned by a man he can trust."

"You've been going to All Time Dry-Cleaning for years! And without you, they'll go out of business!"

"Oh, well. The new dry-cleaners is called-"

"I don't care what it's called! Ugh!" I turned around and walked out of her office and past cubicles hosted by co-workers staring at me.

"Tay!"

I stopped and turned to face Hayley, who was standing in her doorway.

"You're fired!" she yelled.

"You can't fire me!" I yelled back.

"Why not?"

"Because I quit! I now understand why no one ever likes to fucking work for you! I just told you that four guys who own a company that they're only keeping alive because Alex's grandfather owned it and he's dead, is going to go out of business and they will be poor and homeless all because you finally decide, 'You know, two years of those boys has meant nothing.' You're heartless, Hayley Williams! Good luck to you! Good luck to all of you! I'm fucking done at this company!"

Hayley's P.O.V.

Everyone was just staring after Tay, who stuck her middle finger up at me as the elevator doors closed, and then they looked at me. I had never felt more self-conscious of myself. I didn't know anything about the men who owned All Time Dry-Cleaning, and Tay was right; I was heartless. I knew that place was going to go out of business soon, but I had never had a single thought about it.

"Get back to work!" I called harshly and walked to my office.

As soon as I closed the door, I did something I hadn't done in years: I began to care. I hated letting people get to me like that, but Tay was right about everything she had said. I walked over to my desk and fumbled through paperwork until coming across a certain phone number.

"Hello?"

"Gwen, hi," I said, putting on my famous classy accent I used when I talked to her, "listen, something came up today and I kind of have my hands full. Could I maybe send someone down to finalize the paperwork or-"

"Hayley, darling, I love you, but it's your handwriting or no clothing."

I sighed and pulled the phone away to brush some hair behind my ear. "Then I guess we have no business, Gwen."

Before she could reply, I hung up on her. I stood up from my desk and hurried out to the front desk.

"Matty!" I yelled, and his eyes widened.

"Yeah?" he asked.

"Do you know where Tay might've gone?"

"Probably All Time Dry-Cl-"

"Thank you!"

"Uh, yeah. You're welcome."

I hurried into the elevator, waiting for it to go down. It stopped on the next floor and two people got on: a man and a woman.

"Miss Williams?" Cassadee asked nervously.

"What are you doing here?" Brendon asked, readjusting his tie.

"Looking for someone," I replied, watching the light.

"Who ar-"

The elevator dinged. "Bye!" I hurried off the elevator and could feel the two watching me until the doors closed.
