I wake up at 5pm due to the ringtone of my mobile phone. I look at the screen, but don’t recognize the number, so I just ignore it. Since it’s still light outsight, I decide to explore the city a little bit. I change into my yoga pants and a baggy t-shirt, put my hair up into a messy bun and take my favorite black fringe bag together with my purse and my swipe card and leave my room. Because I don’t know how to get around in that big city, I ask the young woman that helped me find my room this afternoon how to get to Time Square. Arrived outside of the main entrance I turn left, just like the lady told me. I walk down the street until I am on 7th Ave and immediately see the entrance to the subway on the other side of the street. I walk down the stairs and take the subway number 2. I try my best not gag, because the smell down here is horrible. After a few minutes I’m immune to the scent of trash, homeless men and rotten eggs. Four subway stations later I exit number 2 and arrived at the station Time Square. When I walk up the stairs and am finally able to breathe again, I find myself in the middle of Manhattan. Tons of people are walking around, every third car is yellow and has TAXI printed on it in big black letters. It is so loud and overwhelming, but I love it. Not even knowing where I am going, I just start exploring. I try to take in every single detail and the more I see, the more I fall in love with this city. The city that is going to be my home for the next 4 years. An hour later I am standing at Time Square. Even though I only lived two hours away from New York City, I have only seen Time Square in movies. It is just as beautiful as in “Happy New Year” and I can’t wait to see the ball drop on New Years Eve in person.

The little shopaholic that I am, I already spot one of my favorite stores. Forever 21. I enter the store and start browsing. About 20 minutes later my arm is packed with stuff and I walk towards the changing rooms. I decide to buy 4 new outfits and make my way out of the store with a big bag full of clothes. By now it already starts getting dark, and because I am walking around in an unfamiliar city, alone, I decide to head back to my dorm room. Holding my breath I walk through the subway and try not to touch anything. That is the only disadvantage her in NYC that I’ve found so far.

Exhausted from my exploring trip I arrive at my dorm room. I get out my swipe card and push it into the swipe card reader on my door. Just like at the main entrance, the tiny lightbulb turns from red to green and my room opens with a buzz. I could really get used to this.

When I unpack my new clothes the smell of plastic meets my nose. I remove all the pricetags and put the clothes back into the yellow Forever 21 bag. Since I haven’t been looking at the whole building, I figure to just take the bag with my new clothes to go wash then in the laundry room that is placed in the basement.
