Ten year old Quad woke up with a start. A yell filled his ears. He flinched, but got up. Walking into the hall, he heard his mother yell, "Meet us outside!" Quad nodded and ran to the door. The front door was already open. Quad ran outside the building and stood at what he assumed was a safe distance. Only when he stopped could he see the lines of smoke rising. His mother burst through the door as if she had been pushed.

"Go!" his father yelled. Quad watched his dad burst back into the house. What is Dad doing? he thought. Then it hit him. My sister!

The first flame burst out the window. Time was getting short. He heard glass shattering and things falling. His father burst out of the house covering his head as the door collapsed. The flame spread quickly along with Quad's despair. He cried out as the flames hit his sister's room.

Quad stood in front of the remains of his burning house. His mother and father stood protectively on either side of him, his intense brown eyes glanced around trying to spot his little sister somewhere. He hoped she made it out.

Suddenly he saw the roof cave in and heard a high pitched scream. He knew immediately that it was his sister.

"NO!" he yelled, running towards the house. His mother grabbed him and pulled him back. He struggled for a while but stopped. His mother must've had a reason. Were they too late? No. He refused to believe that his sister was gone. He had to have hope... When Quad looked up at his mother's face, he saw tears streaming down her face dripping off of her chin. They all looked at the house as it came crashing down. In the distance, they heard faint sirens. They numbly walked towards the police cars.

In the back of the wreckage, a hooded figure slowly walked to a burned child. "You are my chosen heir," it whispered, "My time on this Earth is almost up, but you will carry on my mission." With a spin of it's cape, it took the child away.
