A big, black skyscraper sits right next to us, labeled in bright blue letters "Future Portal". I step out of the car door, my heartbeat fastening. It looks so threatening, as if it's going to eat me whole.Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it did.
"Single file line!" a computerized voice shouts. I cover my ears. I cannot, for the life of me, take loud noises. I purposely stand behind all of my friends, trying to get as close to the back of the line as possible. A slow march through the door begins. With each step, I get more and more anxious. Finally, it's my turn to walk inside. As soon as I step in, goosebumps appear on the side of my arms and I shiver in nervousness. One, large blue booth sits in the middle of the hall, labeled "Portal". The first kid walks into the booth, his face serious and obviously overwhelmed with nervousness. The mere sight of him almost gives me a anxiety attack. He comes out within 10 seconds, a wide grin plastered on his face. He must have gotten a good future. He walks into the waiting room, probably to brag about it to his friends.
20 minutes pass by, and I'm standing in a puddle of sweat. My friend in front of me walks in, her once bubbly face replaced with an anxiety-struck one. I mouth "good luck" but it doesn't seem to work. My body stiffens as I make a realization. I'm standing right in front of the booth,
I'm next.
Panic starts to take ahold of me, my breath tightening. My friend walks out, a look on her face I can't quite make out. She walks into the waiting room quietly, almost as if she's about to cry. I try to reach out to her, but I'm rushed inside.
I walk into the booth, taking deep breaths and close my eyes. My future - is waiting.
Sorry for the cliffhanger, and that this chapter was so short, I'll try to make the next one longer. Please vote, comment, and follow if you enjoyed the story!
